State Department Federal Credit Union is seeking an AP/ATM Staff Accountant. This role is responsible for all aspects of Accounts Payable and ensuring appropriate expenditure classification and proper management authorization to support the financial operations of the Credit Union through maintenance of accounting records and reports. The AP/ATM Staff Accountant also maintains the daily Debit Card/ATM Network Settlement and is responsible for analyzing the ATM cash vaults for over 20 credit union ATMs and performs accounting duties of moderate to intermediate complexity in accordance with standard procedures and under moderate supervision.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:



  • Reviews, prepares, and processes member account adjustments received from credit union personnel. Analyzes account status, calculates required adjustments, posts entries, and completes supporting documentation.
  • Balances daily adjustment postings to the core system.
  • Processes check returns and check exceptions.
  • Verifies adjustments completed by the BOT.
  • Researches, opens, and processes Federal Reserve Bank (FRB) check adjustment cases.
  • Analyzes prior-day unposted share and loan checks and exceptions to determine pay or no-pay decisions.
  • Balances daily in-clearing and transit check files against SDFCU postings.
  • Processes deposited items returned by the Federal Reserve Bank, including verifying transactions, preparing the log, posting adjustments, and forwarding the log and supporting documentation to Accounting.
  • Processes check returns, assesses applicable fees, notifies members as needed, and maintains related files.
  • Prepares check posting error corrections and submits credit requests to the Federal Reserve Bank.

Qualifications

Required Skills and Competencies:



  • Minimum of three years of credit union or banking experience required
  • Two-year degree or equivalent in work experience
  • Minimum of two years check processing experience required, including demonstrated knowledge of check rules and regulations
  • Intermediate Microsoft Office experience, emphasis on Microsoft Excel skills
  • Sound judgment and ability to make knowledgeable and independent decisions
  • Attention to detail and ensuring accuracy of work and exceptional organizational skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work with multiple daily deadlines under high pressure
  • Resolving function-related problems, including check, hardware/software and batch balancing issues
