Alliance Technical Group is seeking an entry-level Staff Geologist / Environmental Engineer to support environmental investigation, monitoring, and remediation projects. This position will be based in our Greenville, South Carolina office and will primarily involve field activities throughout South Carolina and the surrounding region.

The successful candidate will work alongside experienced geologists, engineers, and environmental professionals on a variety of projects involving groundwater monitoring, site investigation, environmental sampling, and remediation. Groundwater sampling and monitoring will be a significant component of the position, particularly during the initial stages of the role.

This is an opportunity for an early-career professional to gain hands-on environmental consulting experience while developing technical skills and progressing toward increased project and client responsibilities.

Responsibilities:



  • Perform groundwater monitoring activities, including water-level measurements, well inspections, well purging, groundwater sampling, and collection of field parameters.
  • Collect soil, surface water, sediment, and other environmental samples as required by project scopes and sampling plans.
  • Properly prepare, label, preserve, document, and transport environmental samples in accordance with applicable procedures and chain-of-custody requirements.
  • Calibrate, operate, maintain, and decontaminate environmental field equipment.
  • Maintain complete and accurate field notes, sampling records, photographs, and other project documentation.
  • Support environmental drilling and subsurface investigation activities, including oversight of drilling and other subcontractors.
  • Assist with Phase II Environmental Site Assessments and other environmental investigations.
  • Perform inspections, monitoring, sampling, and routine operation and maintenance activities associated with environmental remediation systems.
  • Coordinate with project managers, laboratories, subcontractors, property owners, and other project personnel as needed to complete field assignments.
  • Assist with organization, review, and evaluation of environmental data.
  • Prepare tables, figures, field summaries, and portions of technical reports under the direction of senior technical staff.
  • Follow Alliance health and safety procedures and applicable client- and site-specific requirements.
  • Perform other environmental field and technical activities as project needs require.


Pay Rate

$45,000-$55,000/annually

Qualifications

Required:



  • Bachelor's degree in Geology, Geological Sciences, Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering with an environmental emphasis, or a closely related scientific or engineering discipline.
  • 0-2 years of relevant professional experience. Recent graduates are encouraged to apply.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accurate field documentation and data collection.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with coworkers, clients, subcontractors, and other project stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently in the field following appropriate training and direction.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
  • Ability and willingness to travel to project sites and work outside normal office hours when field assignments require it.


Preferred



  • Familiarity with groundwater, soil, or other environmental sampling techniques.
  • Coursework or experience related to hydrogeology, environmental geology, contaminant fate and transport, remediation, or environmental engineering.
  • OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER training. Training can be provided if necessary.
  • Interest in pursuing professional licensure as a Professional Geologist (PG) or Professional Engineer (PE), as applicable.


Field and Physical Requirements

This position involves substantial field work. The employee must be able to:



  • Work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions, including heat, cold, and rain.
  • Walk and work on uneven terrain and active industrial or construction sites.
  • Lift, carry, and operate typical environmental sampling and monitoring equipment.
  • Wear required personal protective equipment.
  • Drive to project locations, including occasional extended-distance travel.
  • Work occasional early mornings, extended field days, overnight assignments, or multiple consecutive days in the field depending on project requirements.
