Overview

The Senior Network Engineer is responsible for the architecture, design, implementation, optimization, security, and operational support of the organization's enterprise network infrastructure. This role serves as a senior technical expert for LAN, WAN, Wireless, Data Center, Palo Alto Security Platforms, and SD-WAN technologies. The Senior Network Engineer provides Tier-3 support for complex network environments, leads network modernization initiatives, develops network standards and best practices, and ensures the availability, performance, scalability, and security of critical business systems. The position works closely with Information Security, Infrastructure, Application, Cloud, and Business teams to deliver secure and resilient network services that support business objectives and regulatory requirements.



Responsibilities

    Design, implement, maintain, and optimize enterprise LAN, WAN, SD-WAN, wireless, and cloud networking environments.
  • Support resilient connectivity for branches, ATMs, contact center, data centers, cloud platforms, and other member-facing or business-critical systems.
  • Address operational technical debt by creating, validating, and maintaining accurate network configurations, diagrams, standards, runbooks, dependencies, and operational support procedures.
  • Engineer and support complex routing and switching environments utilizing Cisco, HPE, and other enterprise-class networking platforms.
  • Design, implement, and troubleshoot dynamic routing protocols including BGP, OSPF, and route redistribution.
  • Design, implement, maintain, and troubleshoot VLAN, VRF, QoS, multicast, high-availability, and traffic-engineering solutions.
  • Manage enterprise IP addressing strategies, DNS integration, NAT services, and network segmentation.
  • Lead network modernization and transformation initiatives, including cloud connectivity, SD-WAN deployments, and data center networking improvements.
  • Evaluate emerging networking technologies and provide recommendations that align with business and security requirements.
  • Participate in strategic planning and composition of technology roadmaps for network infrastructure, including supporting lifecycle management of network infrastructure, hardware refresh planning, firmware/software currency, end-of-life tracking, standard configuration baselines and configuration backup/restore validation.
  • Implement and support advanced network services supporting voice, video, collaboration, and business-critical applications.
  • Design, implement, administer, and optimize Palo Alto Networks Next-Generation Firewall or other firewall environments.
  • Manage security policies, application controls, secure access controls, URL filtering, IPS, threat prevention, GlobalProtect, network segmentation, and network access capabilities in partnership with Information Security.
  • Support Palo Alto Panorama or other tools for centralized firewall configuration, monitoring, policy management, and compliance reporting.
  • Collaborate with Information Security teams to implement secure network architectures and regulatory requirements.
  • Investigate and remediate network-related security incidents and vulnerabilities.
  • Design, deploy, and support Palo Alto Prisma SD-WAN and related WAN technologies.
  • Optimize WAN performance, resiliency, application-aware routing, and branch connectivity.
  • Manage relationships with telecommunications providers and cloud connectivity partners.
  • Troubleshoot complex carrier, transport, and internet service provider issues.
  • Serve as the senior escalation point and lead technical response efforts for network incidents, outages, performance degradation, and critical service disruptions.
  • Develop, maintain, and continuously improve network monitoring, alerting, logging, configuration backup, and observability capabilities to identify performance degradation, capacity constraints, availability risks, and emerging issues before they impact members, employees, or business-critical services; support incident response, capacity planning, audit evidence, and operational reporting.
  • Lead technical root cause analysis for network incidents, performance issues, and recurring service disruptions; document findings, identify contributing factors, and implement corrective and preventive actions to improve reliability and reduce repeat incidents.
  • Prepares and executes network changes in accordance with change management standards, including implementation plans, risk/impact analysis, testing plans, rollback plans, peer review, stakeholder communication, and post-change validation.
  • Participate in periodic on-call support and scheduled maintenance activities outside normal business hours.
  • Support regulatory, audit, and compliance initiatives including FFIEC, NCUA, PCI DSS, and other applicable requirements.
  • Participate in business continuity and disaster recovery planning, testing, and validation.
  • Ensure network infrastructure adheres to security, operational, and architectural standards.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentoring to network engineers and other IT team members.
  • Lead network projects and workstreams while coordinating with project managers, vendors, and business stakeholders.
  • Develop implementation plans, migration strategies, and technical designs.
  • Communicate network risks, recommendations, and project status to technical and non-technical audiences.


Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent experience preferred.

Experience

  • 6 to 10 years of progressive enterprise networking enterprise experience

  • 5 to 7 years of hands-on experience with enterprise routing and switching technologies.

Knowledge, Skills & Ability
  • Expert knowledge of TCP/IP networking fundamentals.
  • Advanced knowledge of enterprise routing and switching.
  • Strong experience with BGP, OSPF, multicast, QoS, VLANs, VRFs, and network segmentation.
  • Advanced troubleshooting skills across LAN, WAN, Wireless, SD-WAN, and Cloud environments.
  • Experience with Palo Alto Networks firewalls and Panorama.
  • Experience with network monitoring, performance analysis, and packet capture tools.
  • Experience with network resiliency, high availability, and disaster recovery designs.
  • Strong understanding of network security principles and best practices.
  • Ability to create and maintain technical documentation and network diagrams.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience with Palo Alto Prisma SD-WAN.
  • Experience with cloud connectivity and cloud networking concepts such as Azure virtual networks, AWS VPCs, VPNs, private connectivity, routing, security groups, and hybrid connectivity patterns
  • Experience in financial services, regulated industries, or highly secure enterprise environments
  • Experience with network automation and Infrastructure as Code concepts
  • Experience with software-defined networking technologies
