About the Department
The Department offers the following degrees: B.S. in Mathematics, M.S. in Mathematics with no concentration or concentrations in Bioinformatics, Discrete Mathematics, Scientific Computing, Statistics, and Applied Mathematics, M.S. in Applied Statistics with no concentration or concentrations in Biostatistics and Statistics & Allied Fields, and Ph.D. in Mathematics and Statistics with concentrations in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Bioinformatics, Biostatistics, and Machine Learning and Data Science. To facilitate students' learning, the department offers a variety of courses that range from introductory to upper undergraduate and graduate levels, taught in traditional, emporium, and fully online formats. Some of our courses have become national success models and have attracted visitors from many other universities across the nation. Position Description
The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Georgia State University invites applications for an anticipated Academic Professional position in Mathematics and Statistics beginning Spring 2027. Candidates in all areas of mathematics and statistics are encouraged to apply.
Academic Professional is a 12-month appointment. The responsibilities for the position will include:
(a) teach a variety of fundamental courses for math, science, and other majors across the University,
(b) serve as administrators of large instructional laboratories for courses offered in emporium format for various majors across the University,
work as course coordinators for multi-section emporium and hybrid courses; prepare assessment reports for emporium and hybrid courses,
(d) supervise graduate teaching and laboratory assistants working as tutors and recitation instructors for emporium courses,
(e) engage in enrichment and enhancement of various hybrid and emporium courses offered by the department,
(f) serve on important departmental and college committees,
(g) mentor and advise undergraduate students on required and elective courses, departmental prerequisite policies, and other crucial academic matters.
Although this is a non-tenure track position, it will be renewable each year for the first five years, subject to annual evaluation and a third-year review, and it has the potential for promotion to senior academic professional after five years.
