Description
Position at HNI Workplace Furnishings
We are currently seeking a student to join our Human Resources/Member and Community Relations (MCR) Internship program in Muscatine, Iowa, with a primary focus in our
Talent Acquisition Center of Excellence (COE).
Our MCR professionals are strategic human resources partners whose work spans talent acquisition, member engagement, talent development, workforce planning, organizational effectiveness, and other areas that help our businesses attract, develop, and retain great talent.
This internship is designed for a student who wants more than exposure to HR. We are looking for someone who is excited to
own projects, analyze information, engage with students and candidates, strengthen our employer brand, and help us think differently about how we attract talent.
The intern will be based within the Talent Acquisition COE while gaining cross-functional experience with HR and business partners across the organization.
What You'll Experience
As an MCR Intern supporting Talent Acquisition, you will have the opportunity to:
- Gain hands-on experience in talent acquisition and human resources within a large, fast-paced organization.
- Support recruitment and talent attraction initiatives, including sourcing, candidate engagement, interview coordination, campus recruiting, and other talent programs.
- Help build and execute employer branding and recruitment marketing initiatives that strengthen awareness of career opportunities and our employee value proposition.
- Partner on student and early career engagement strategies, including campus relationships, recruiting events, internship programming, and candidate communications.
- Own meaningful project-based work from planning through execution, establishing timelines, coordinating stakeholders, monitoring progress, and communicating results.
- Use data and analytics to identify recruiting trends, evaluate program effectiveness, organize information, and help the team make informed talent decisions.
- Explore opportunities to appropriately leverage AI and emerging technology to improve recruiting, communications, research, analytics, and HR processes.
- Collaborate with members of the Talent Acquisition COE as well as HR professionals, business leaders, and cross-functional partners.
- Gain broader exposure to areas of HR such as talent management, workforce planning, member engagement, talent development, performance management, and organizational effectiveness.
- Develop an understanding of how HR strategies connect to business priorities and organizational performance.
- Present recommendations, project outcomes, or findings to HR and business stakeholders.
What We're Looking For
Successful candidates will bring curiosity, initiative, strong organization, and an interest in building a career in HR. Preferred qualifications include:
- Currently pursuing a four-year degree in Human Resources, Business, Marketing, Communications, Management, Data Analytics, or a related field.
- Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and follow projects through to completion.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to build relationships and work effectively across functions and with individuals at different levels of an organization.
- Demonstrated initiative, curiosity, professionalism, and willingness to take ownership of work.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and comfort learning new technologies.
- Ability to organize, interpret, and communicate data to support decisions.
- Interest in emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence and its practical application in HR and recruiting.
Strongly Preferred
We're especially interested in candidates who have previous experience or demonstrated interest in one or more of the following:
- Employer branding or recruitment marketing
- Campus recruiting or student engagement
- Recruiting, sourcing, or candidate engagement
- Project or program management
- Event planning and execution
- Data analysis, reporting, or visualization
- AI tools, automation, or emerging technology
- Student organizations, leadership roles, or other activities demonstrating initiative and collaboration
What Will Make You Successful
You don't need to know everything about HR on day one. We are looking for someone who:
- Is highly organized and can turn ideas into action.
- Enjoys taking ownership rather than waiting for the next assignment.
- Can balance details while maintaining sight of the bigger picture.
- Is comfortable working on multiple projects with different stakeholders.
- Uses data and insights to ask good questions and recommend improvements.
- Communicates confidently and professionally with students, candidates, HR partners, and business leaders.
- Is curious about how technology and AI can make HR more effective while using those tools thoughtfully and responsibly.
- Enjoys collaborating in a cross-functional environment and learning from others.
The Internship Experience
This internship combines
day-to-day involvement in Talent Acquisition with a meaningful project or portfolio of projects that the intern will help manage through completion.
You'll leave the experience with a broader understanding of how a Talent Acquisition Center of Excellence operates, how recruiting connects to the broader HR function, and how HR professionals partner with business leaders to solve real organizational and talent challenges.
This is a
paid internship based in Muscatine, Iowa, and housing is provided if needed.
We look forward to hearing from you!
