Primary Responsibilities

In the role of Senior Airfield Paving Engineer, we'll count on you to:

  • Serve as HDR's leading Subject Matter Expert in airfield pavement design for DoD clients.
  • Design airfield pavements utilizing PCASE software, edit UFGS for airfield paving materials, perform QA/QC, prepare technical Design Analysis reports and geotechnical scopes of work.
  • Assist with Designer of Record reach back services during construction and provide support for critical items like test placements or trouble shoot problem areas.
  • In concert with the Project Manager, lead design teams preparing airfield pavement projects ranging from Planning Charrettes though Final Designs.
  • Grow HDR's visibility within the industry and assist with Business Development goals.
  • Train staff, answer questions and explain DoD procedures.
  • Perform other duties as needed.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering is a must. Master's degree in Engineering is a plus.
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in all aspects of airfield pavement design for DoD clients.
  • PE is a must. Project Management experience is a plus.
  • Experience with PCASE, PAVER, Spec Intact, Microsoft Office, and other airfield pavement design software packages.
  • Experience with the DoD method of airfield pavement design (CBR/k) that is supported by manuals, specifications, and guidance documents.
  • Experience with the geometric design for airfield pavements and airspace requirements.
  • Global experience with airfield paving materials and construction methods.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills and ability to work in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and industry connections with DoD airfield pavement Subject Matter Experts.
  • Ability and willingness to travel to CONUS and OCONUS installations.
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering
  • Requires professional engineering license recognized by the licensing board for the location of the position offered. Example: Professional Engineer (PE or P.Eng) license.
  • A minimum of 10 years experience with Airfield Planning and Design
  • Develop, maintain and implement the use of new or improve existing methodologies or technical tools to improve technical design efficiency for use throughout Aviation Market
  • Overall strong understanding of airfield design
  • Strong technical background and experience in designing several aspects of airfields
  • Microsoft Office experience
  • Project Management experience
  • Strong oral and written communication skills and ability to work in a team environment
  • Demonstrated leadership skills
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must

The expected compensation range for this position depends upon skills, experience, education and geographical location. (Stated benefits are for full-time regular positions.
