Job Summary:

This position will report to the UNC Health Alliance (UNCHA) Network Development Executive Director and serves as an integral part of the system level initiative to transition to Value Based Care. Ideal candidate needs to live in the NC's western region.

UNC Health Alliance is UNC Health Care's statewide clinically integrated network, and is the primary vehicle created to transform health care delivery and payment models on behalf of 8,000+ physicians, including community-based physicians with those owned and/or employed by UNC Health Care. UNC Health Alliance works closely with payers, employers, and physicians to manage quality, cost, and access to care for those living and working in the organization's service areas.

The Network Development Specialist is a senior level position within the UNCHA's Network Development department. It is responsible for relationship management with physicians, practices, hospitals, and other network partners; execution of provider engagement and network development activities; clinical integration; support of provider performance in value-based care programs; onboarding of new network participants and provider partners; collection and sharing of market intelligence and customer feedback with internal stakeholders.

Position serves as a key point of contact for assigned providers, practices, hospitals, and other network partners, utilizes and promotes technology solutions to facilitate communication and network connectivity, clinical integration, and value-based care performance, and incorporates data analytics for outreach prospecting, performance improvement, and business development initiatives.

In addition to project management, the position collaborates with providers and stakeholders to identify, evaluate and develop new business and clinical partnership opportunities that are consistent with the goals and mission of UNC Health Care.

Description of Job Responsibilities:

1. Relationship Management
  • Serve as a relationship manager, ambassador, and key point of contact for assigned providers, physician practices, and hospitals.
  • Routinely engage assigned physician practices and network partners to understand their needs, communicate relevant programs and services, review performance opportunities, and address needs of providers and staff.
  • Promptly identify and address network participation, care access, operational, clinical integration, and value-based care performance barriers identified by providers and practice staff.
  • Onboard new network participants, providers, practice managers, and other key stakeholders to applicable network programs, participation requirements, technology solutions, clinical services, value-based care expectations, and integration resources.
  • Regularly engage and collaborate with others that influence or benefit from team and individual activity including NDPL colleagues, Strategic Planning, Marketing, ISD, Care Access, Virtual Care Center, Legal/Compliance, etc. Collaborate with Population Health, Quality, Analytics, Finance, entity leadership, and other teams supporting value-based care performance and network growth as appropriate.
2. Strategy and Collaboration
  • Design, develop and execute provider engagement, network development, and value-based growth strategies that support strategic growth, clinical integration, and care access, and value-based care performance. Collaborate with physicians, service line, and hospital leadership, as well as entity and market leadership in the planning process.
  • Collect customer feedback, market intelligence, business development, network development, value-based care performance, clinical integration opportunities identified from provider, practice, and network partner interactions. Provide information to service line leadership, strategic planning, and other organizational stakeholders.
  • Identify and support clinical integration for changes in healthcare delivery including narrow networks and other strategically aligned provider and value-based care network models.
  • Partner with providers, internal stakeholders, and entity and market leaders to identify value-based care performance and market growth opportunities; develop practice-level performance improvement and market-specific growth strategies; and identify, prioritize, and cultivate strategic provider and healthcare organization partnerships using local market knowledge and established relationships.
  • Demonstrate advanced understanding of UNC Health Care system and services, network capabilities, value-based care programs, strategic priorities, and market differentiation.
3. Accountability
  • Ensure provider engagement, network development, value-based care performance support, market growth, and project activity meet performance expectations established by leadership.
  • Demonstrate working knowledge of organizational mission, goals and initiatives, internal service line offerings, and market differentiation, including applicable network and value-based care strategies, contractual requirements, and performance expectations.
  • Demonstrate proficiency and effectively promote the use of information technology solutions that enhance care access and communication between providers. Effective promotion includes assistance with education and training, enrollment, and technical assistance, including technology used to support value-based care workflows and performance improvement.
  • Effectively utilize data such as claims, attribution, utilization, quality, cost of care, access, risk, network, and other relevant data to identify targets for provider engagement, network development, performance improvement, and value-based growth, market growth, and clinical integration.
  • Review provider and practice performance data to identify trends, gaps, and improvement opportunities; support practices in understanding applicable value-based care goals and requirements; track agreed-upon performance priorities; escalate significant barriers or performance risks; and maintain a pipeline of value-based growth opportunities.
  • Document provider engagement, network development activity, performance improvement efforts, value-based growth opportunities, and issue resolution in a timely and accurate manner within the PRM contact management software, productivity spreadsheets, and outreach plans.
  • Submit provider and network engagement summaries to service line and organizational stakeholders in a timely and accurate manner. Summaries should include purpose, attendees, discussion items, market intelligence, value-based care performance opportunities, identified growth opportunities, risks, agreed-upon interventions, and action items.
  • Ensure expense and resource management is fully compliant with legal standards, budgetary targets, and financial reporting protocols.
4. Leadership
  • High performance is required in all the above areas with ownership and leadership of assigned service lines, markets, network relationships, value-based care initiatives, and projects.
  • Identify opportunities and lead new business development initiatives that support strategic market growth, expansion of the organization's value-based care footprint, value-based care performance, and care access improvement. This includes project management related to new provider and network partnerships, clinical programs, telehealth, and information technology solutions.
  • Lead value-based market development efforts in assigned geographies, working with entity and market leaders and cross-functional teams to translate organizational strategy into actionable growth plans, advance strategic partnerships, improve provider, and network performance, and deepen or expand successful relationships.
  • Coordinate and lead regional network meetings with entity and market leaders, providers, and internal stakeholders to align on value-based care performance, market growth priorities, network needs, strategic opportunities, and follow-up actions.
  • Facilitate and negotiate interactions between internal stakeholders and customers, develop and execute legal contracts, communicate project status to all appropriate organizational stakeholders, and ensure the successful implementation of the new service or network initiative.
  • Serve as a mentor and training resource to new network development specialists.
  • Assist Director with various project and team management needs as assigned.

Professional Experience Requirements:
* Six (6) years in provider or network development, value-based care, physician/provider relations, healthcare business development, or healthcare sales.

Knowledge/Skills/and Abilities Requirements:

  • Knowledge of the organization of integrated delivery systems, provider relations, market analysis, and new product development, value-based care models, provider network development, performance analytics, population health, and market growth strategy.
