The full salary range for this position is $73,800 to $131,200/year. Department Marketing Statement: Housing, Dining & Auxiliary Enterprises (HDAE) is a part of the Division of Administrative Services. It plays a vital role in the university's pursuit of excellence by delivering a comprehensive array of essential services to students, staff, and other customers through a large-scale auxiliary services operation with annual operating and capital budgets exceeding $200 million and capital and major maintenance reserves of $40 million. Operating 24 hours a day, year-round, HDAE provides housing for more than 10,000 students, faculty, and family residents on campus and supports an additional 9,300 students living in adjacent communities. HDAE serves approximately 21,000 customers daily through its retail and board dining programs, manages key campus facilities including the University Center, Campus Store, the Events Center, and the Club & Guest House, hosts 150,000 guests annually for conferences and meetings, and oversees the administration of transportation, parking, and fleet services. Learn more about the benefits of working at UC Brief Summary of Job Duties: Under the general direction of the Director of the UCSB Campus Store, the Assistant Director of Operations Management develops and implements strategies to achieve excellent customer service, cost controls, and to generate revenue growth. Leads a team of career and student staff responsible for the operational support of the UCSB Campus Store including course materials, store website and eCommerce. Oversees shipping and receiving and cash handling functions for the store, creating policies and procedures to be followed by all staff. Hires, trains, supervises and evaluates both career and student staff necessary to perform these functions. The Assistant Director is a liaison with the campus community, and annually provides support by coordinating all Campus Store involvement in the annual Commencement ceremonies. This position is fiscally responsible for the operations budget of the Campus Store with annual sales volume over $8,000,000. Required Qualifications:

For reference, below are UC's policies addressing some forms of misconduct: UC Sexual Violence and Sexual Harassment Policy UC Anti-Discrimination Policy Abusive Conduct in the Workplace Job Functions and Percentages of Time: Operations Management -35% Hires, trains and directly supervises three department managers and twenty student cashiering staff. Indirectly supervises one career staff and fifty student department staff. Responsible for motivating staff and creating an efficient, goal-minded team. Develops programs that promote staff skills and establishes good communication throughout the organization. Determines the most efficient blend of part-time employees to minimize cost and maximize student employment opportunities, while providing excellent customer service and sound operating practices. Determines organizational structure and distribution of duties for optimal performance. Cross trains all career and student employees on the register system. Works closely with UCen cashiers office to ensure accuracy in all aspects of accounting standards. Oversees cash register and store system operations to accept payments, place orders, and make changes to adhering to safe cash handling practices, including daily opening and closing activities. Supervises and trains all cashiers on cash handling for 10 registers and the majority of customer service problems as well as resolving overages/shortages and developing cash handling procedures that minimize loss of Campus Store income. Supervises the Receiving Manager responsible for accurately receiving merchandise for the Campus Store, coordinating with all buyers to determine accurate pricing. Accountable for getting merchandise to the sales floor in a timely manner for maximum sales. Ensures that the Receiving Manager practices safe operation/training in use of equipment. Financial Management and Planning - 20% In coordination with the Director, develops the annual Campus Store budget. Works with the management team and the staff to submit the final budget to HDAE leadership and the UCen Governance Board for approval. Analyzes monthly sales, costs, margins, inventory and cash flow for budget performance and compatibility with objectives. Responsible for expending capital funds for store maintenance, with Director's approval. Reviews the monthly income statement, reports discrepancies to the Director for correction. Works with staff to ensure timely changes to maximize bottom line profit. In coordination with the Director, monitors long-range planning and proposes adjustments that insure the viability of the business. Works to implement accepted adjustments including pricing strategies, cost control measurements, academic relations with the campus community, growth and profitability. Administrative Operations - 10% Works with the Director and the executive office manager to ensure the Campus Store is scheduled for timely opening, closing and overall coverage. Responsible for training keyholders on opening and closing procedures and issuing of keys. Ensures all staff are listed in the campus directory and updates prerecorded outgoing messages. Helps coordinate staff meetings for Campus Store staff. Coordinates all trash collection, store receiving dock maintenance and recycling. Responsible for lunchroom maintenance, trash and equipment. Manages Campus Store water stations. Works with the UCen Health and Safety office to ensure emergency procedures are up to date. Ensures all staff know the location of procedure information and emergency equipment, i.e., fire extinguishers. Coordinates emergency drills. Helps develops strategies for responding to national, state, local and campus economic or natural disaster conditions that may directly impact the store. Course Materials - 15% Works with the course material team on long-range planning, policies and day-to-day operations around book sales. New/Used Textbooks: Department supports the academic mission of the campus and provides course materials to the campus in a timely and cost-effective way. Works with course materials manager to communicate closely with faculty to provide most current instructional materials. General Books: Helps provide a selection of faculty and alumnus written books. eCommerce - 10% Oversees designing, maintaining, troubleshooting, upgrading and implementing of solutions involving the Campus Store's websites, computer network, and integrated software. Directly supervises the eCommerce manager and meets monthly to plan new directions and design of Campus Store's website. Negotiates support contracts and interfaces with contracted companies to develop and maintain website. Commencement - 10% Procures, plans and coordinates regalia sales, rentals, and the offsite operations for the annual Commencement ceremonies. Coordinates regalia sales in store, online and at grad fair. Acts as a liaison with several campus departments and serves as the Campus Store representative to the all-campus committee responsible for planning and executing successful Commencements.
