What to Expect
Our Battery Vehicle, Components Team is core to the success of our mission, providing the bedrocks of our vehicles and our customer experience. They will provide direct feedback to the vehicle engineering team, as well as develop the plant tooling and equipment strategy. As a result, the Tooling Engineer will have direct responsibility for the quality level of the vehicle.

What You'll Do
  • Deliver high quality injection molds that meet tooling standards, production volume, part quality and cost goals of the program
  • Work directly with Product Engineers to provide support and feedback on tooling builds and engineering change orders
  • Provide technical direction on tool, equipment design, and build
  • Provide technical/operational support to Tool and Die, Maintenance, and Process technicians
  • Manage all aspects of tool development for injection molding procurement, maintenance, and project planning. Technical specifications for RFQ generation, tool design, DFM, and Mold-Flow review, analyze and approve trials, and tuning at the tool shop. Reporting to company stakeholders on progress and issues, reviewing BOMs to ensure compliance with tool standards, create documentation/training/support for Tooling and Maintenance departments, root cause analysis and problem resolution for tooling-related production issues
  • Resolve issues related to Hot Runner systems
  • Support with basic Hydraulic and Electrical systems as they apply to Injection Molds
  • Lead Tooling design and Tooling standards creation
  • Experience with end-to-end tooling platforms, including procurement and home-lining of injection molds, is preferred
  • This position is 90% injection molding and 10% stamping, some stamping experience is preferred but not required. Machining knowledge is also a plus

What You'll Bring
  • Degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent relevant experience
  • Journeyman's certification in Tool and Die/Mold Making can also be considered
  • Demonstrated hands-on experience buying off injection molds for construction quality and part accuracy. Demonstrated experience managing international tool suppliers to meet project goals. Experience creating work instructions to maintain injection molds
  • Strong, demonstrated interpersonal skills to work effectively and cooperatively with diverse teams of engineers and management
  • Able to perform 3-D modeling CATIA, Solidworks, 3D Experience, Fusion 360
  • Knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatics, and electrical control systems relating to Injection Molds
  • Experience applying statistical analysis to improve product quality and/or production results
  • Strong Root cause analysis skills and the ability to lead problem solving events across cross functional teams including suppliers
  • Hands-on toolmaking background preferred, with the ability to mentor, train, and provide technical support to Tool & Die Makers
