Position Overview

Position Summary
Under general supervision, perform professional accounting and financial administration functions involving analysis, review, interpretation, and application of university policies, accounting principles, and applicable state and federal regulations. Exercise independent judgment in reviewing financial transactions, resolving accounting issues, and advising university departments on financial matters.


Requirements

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Analyze, prepare, and review complex accounting reports, financial transactions, and account reconciliations; identify discrepancies, determine appropriate corrective actions, and resolve accounting issues in accordance with applicable policies, regulations, and accounting principles.
  • Review and approve university expenditures and expenditure requests within established delegated authority; evaluate transactions for compliance with university policies, accounting requirements, funding restrictions, and applicable state and federal regulations, and determine appropriate action when transactions do not comply.
  • Exercise independent judgment in interpreting and applying university accounting policies, procedures, and applicable state and federal requirements; evaluate unusual or complex financial circumstances and determine appropriate accounting or administrative action
  • Advise the University community of the policies and procedures utilized by the Office of Business Affairs and State and Federal regulations
  • Respond to business office inquiries from the University community
  • Assist with the close of the fiscal year
  • Ensure that work assignments are completed timely and accurately
  • Regular and predictable attendance is required
  • Perform related duties as assigned

Minimum Job Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Business Administration, Public Administration, Computer Information Systems with an emphasis in accounting and a minimum of two years' experience directly related to the duties specified, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience is required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of accounting principles, methods, and application
  • Knowledge of computer-based accounting systems and software, including experience with Microsoft Excel
  • Ability to analyze and interpret financial data and prepare financial reports
  • Ability to balance and reconcile a variety of accounts, financial reports, and statements
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Effective oral and written communication skills

Working Conditions

Physical Demand and Working Conditions:

  • Work is performed during normal work hours, with some evenings and weekends to meet deadlines.
  • Work is sedentary in nature and at times requires exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a consistent amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
