General Job Description: The VDC Process Lead is a specialized individual contributor responsible for the tactical optimization, standard operating procedure (SOP) documentation, and execution of Virtual Design and Construction (VDC) workflows across mechanical trades. Serving as a crucial bridge between digital modeling, prefabrication processes, and technology integration, this role acts as the hands-on driver of workflow engineering. The Lead maps detailing processes, authors technical documentation, and provides escalated technical support to detailing teams. This role works within the Construction Operations Development team, collaborating closely with fellow Operations Development members, and reports to the VDC Process Manager. Supervises: N/A
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Workflow Mapping & Process Optimization: Actively evaluate, map, and refine mechanical VDC detailing workflows. Identify bottlenecks from design through fabrication and tactical solutions to increase detailing efficiency and data accuracy.
- SOP Generation & Documentation: Author, maintain, and update detailed Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and technical manuals for all VDC operations to ensure standardized modeling practices across all regional teams.
- Deliverables Tracking & Execution Support: Serve as a subject matter expert on project deliverables tracking tools and schedules, ensuring detailing and fabrication requests are accurately tracked and executed.
- Technology & API Testing: Collaborate with technology and development teams to beta-test custom tools, add-ins, visual programming scripts (e.g., Dynamo), and API integrations before broad deployment to production teams.
- Escalated Modeling & Process Support: Serve as a primary technical escalation resource for VDC personnel encountering complex modeling errors, software conflicts, or advanced coordination challenges.
- Research & Development (R&D) Execution: Conduct hands-on testing of emerging VDC software, tools, and methodologies, reporting findings and deployment recommendations to leadership.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with VDC Content Developers, Fabrication Technology Leads, and Enablement teams to ensure detailing processes align seamlessly with database configurations, shop machinery, and training programs.

Position Requirements (Skills, Knowledge, Abilities):
- A minimum of 5+ years of practical, hands-on experience in mechanical construction VDC detailing, coordination, and prefabrication processes. High School diploma or equivalent required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field is preferred.
- Comprehensive practical understanding of mechanical systems (piping, plumbing, or sheet metal/HVAC), including fabrication standards, spooling, and field installation constraints.
- Advanced, expert-level proficiency in Autodesk Revit, Autodesk Fabrication software (CADmep/CAMduct), Navisworks Manage, and Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC/BIM 360).
- Proven experience in workflow mapping, authoring technical SOPs, and diagnosing software process breakdowns.
- Working familiarity with visual programming (e.g., Dynamo) or data structures/APIs to effectively test automation tools.
- Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to mentor peers and translate technical solutions to broader teams.

Travel: 10 - 15% of the time to and from the primary other office locations and to applicable trade conferences and collaborations. Competitive Wages: $106,000 to $143,000 annually.
