Location: Hartford, CT, USA, 06114

Duration: 6 months

Schedule: Monday-Friday or Tuesday-Saturday / Flexible Evening Shift (3:00 PM-11:30 PM or until completed)

Position Summary

The Router I is responsible for supporting transportation operations by coordinating daily route planning, maintaining routing systems, and serving as a liaison between delivery drivers and management. This role ensures routing efficiency, customer satisfaction, and accurate system maintenance while providing administrative support to the transportation team. The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, adaptable, and able to thrive in a fast-paced environment.


Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and maintain daily truck routing using routing software such as Omnitracs/Roadnet.
  • Review routing schedules and route changes to ensure maximum operational efficiency.
  • Function as a liaison between drivers and management regarding route assignments, delivery issues, and operational updates.
  • Input and maintain customer information, including route assignments and geo-coding data.
  • Perform ongoing system maintenance and ensure routing records remain accurate and up to date.
  • Manage customer and routing files while maintaining confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Schedule deliveries to meet customer service expectations and requested delivery windows.
  • Communicate effectively with transportation leadership and operations management regarding routing needs and challenges.
  • Debrief drivers upon route completion and document issues, concerns, and operational feedback.
  • Provide written communications, recaps, and operational reports as needed.
  • Support warehouse loading functions and coordinate with warehouse personnel to ensure route readiness.
  • Answer incoming phone calls and provide office support for transportation operations.
  • Assist with clerical and administrative activities related to transportation and logistics.
  • Adapt to changing business needs and support additional duties as assigned.


Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • 0-3 years of experience in transportation, logistics, dispatching, routing, customer service, administration, or a related field.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Experience maintaining records, files, and confidential information.
  • Positive attitude with strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Reliable attendance and dependability.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with AS400.
  • Experience using Omnitracs, RoadNet, or similar routing software.
  • Transportation, distribution, warehouse, or fleet operations experience.
  • Knowledge of route planning, route optimization, and dispatch operations.


Work Schedule

  • Must be flexible to work assigned shifts and varying schedules based on business needs.
  • Typical schedule may be Monday-Friday or Tuesday-Saturday.
  • Must be available to provide backup coverage on Sundays and other days as needed.
  • Typical shift hours are 3:00 PM to 11:30 PM, or until daily operations are completed.
