Position Summary

STERIS Endoscopy currently has an opportunity available for a Materials Engineering Co-op in the Product Engineering department. This position will apply materials science and engineering principles to assist in the design, development, and release of unique gastrointestinal device solutions to meet the customer's unmet needs. The position also works with existing products to make them more efficient and cost-effective while assisting in day-to day production. Working with internal cross-functional teams, the position requires professionalism, dedication, and positive drive to ensure the completion of the projects in a time-sensitive, regulated environment. This position will be based in Mentor, OH.

  • Dates: Spring 2027 (January-May) - potential to extend into Summer 2027 (May-August)
  • Location: Mentor, OH
  • Work Environment: Onsite
  • Hours: Full-time for the duration of your co-op
What You'll Do as a Materials Engineering Co-op
  • Plan and execute materials characterization, screening and/or comparative testing for polymers, metals, adhesives, coatings or other materials used in GI Endoscopy medical devices and manufacturing processes
  • Perform material evaluations and/or testing to support biocompatibility assessments for new products and design changes
  • Support Manufacturing and Quality project teams in root cause analysis and corrective action implementation to resolve production-related materials issues and ensure ISO 13485:2016 compliance
  • Conduct literature, standards, specifications, and supplier-data reviews to identify materials-related technical risks and potential mitigations
  • Document test plans, methods, results, data analyses, conclusions and recommendations in clear and accurate engineering reports
  • Communicate project status, technical findings, risks, and recommendations to cross-functional stakeholders
  • Any other duties or projects as required by the department
The Experience, Skills and Abilities Needed

Required:

  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's degree Engineering program - Materials Science & Engineering, Polymer Science, Biomedical, Chemical or similar disciplines.
  • Currently enrolled in upper-level coursework (Junior/3rd year or above)
  • Strong working knowledge of MS Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, & Outlook)

Preferred:

  • Experience in statistical analysis, design of experiments is a plus
  • Preference is for candidate to return for multiple co-op positions

Other:

  • Clear written and oral communication skills required
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills, with the specific ability to work independently while effectively collaborating with cross-functional teams as needed

Pay range for this opportunity is $23-27/hr.

Minimum pay rates offered will comply with county/city minimums, if higher than range listed. Pay rates are based on a number of factors, including but not limited to local labor market costs, years of relevant experience, education, professional certifications, foreign language fluency, etc.
