HDR is currently looking for a Roadway Business Class Lead for the Washington State Region. The Roadway Business Class Lead will collaborate with Area roadway design staff as well as regional business class staff and the Highway and Roads Market Sector Lead to support work-sharing, technical staff development, and business development support. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership and organization skills to assist in successful delivery of roadway projects in Washington State including coordinating roadway design staffing needs throughout the region, helping to balance the roadway design regional workload, develop roadway design technical expertise, and provide business development support on key pursuits.

In the role of Washington Roadway Business Class Lead, we'll count on you to:

  • Take responsibility for area coordination, monitoring and improvement of technical competencies of business class staff and products to meet client needs and market drivers, all within direction and goals of business class plans
  • Participate in delivery of project services to meet client expectations
  • Collaborate on business class efforts with area operations, marketing and project management
  • Participate in business class practice and professional discipline groups, project teams and activities to continually improve standards and best practices, and implement effective quality assurance and quality control reviews
  • Participate in business class strategic planning, budgeting and plan implementation
  • Manage key roadway projects and foster strong client relationships
  • Conduct coordination meetings with roadway design staff in the region to discuss key challenges, projected short and mid-term forecasted workloads, and key business development and QC needs
  • Assist with coordination, mentoring, development, and hiring regional roadway design staff and production support to provide quality deliverables to meet client needs and market drivers
  • Serve as a regional leader of the Roadway Business Class, supporting staff development and recognition, project delivery, business development, worksharing assistance, and QA support for major roadway design projects
  • Provide support with scope/fee development and execution of large roadway design projects in conjunction with area and regional design staff
  • Actively drive open communication of current/projected production needs and collaborate with management to influence staffing and expertise levels and staff recruitment and retention
  • Coordinate project staffing and workload management to balance roadway design workload through the region and assist with work-sharing outside the region as needed to meet client needs
  • Promote career development of highways design staff throughout the region, including providing guidance on training and workshare opportunities, staff mentoring, and HDR roadway design section management best practices
  • Perform other duties as needed
Preferred Qualifications
  • Actively engaged in professional or industry associations to enhance HDR technical expertise and brand
  • Experience managing and leading transportation engineering projects including roadway centric projects
  • Experience supervising engineers and other project managers

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in a Professional, Architecture, Engineering or closely related field
  • 10 years of experience
  • Committed to quality, improvement and HDR values
  • Maintains a professional or engineering registration and has related technical experience
  • Experienced in development and management of diverse teams
  • Works cooperatively with other area business class leaders, operations managers, technical directors and marketing managers on business class efforts
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must

The expected compensation range for this position depends upon skills, experience, education and geographical location. (Stated benefits are for full-time regular positions.
