JOB SUMMARY:
We are seeking a Lead AI Engineer to own the hands-on development and production delivery of advanced AI systems powering Claritev's next generation of healthcare products. This role is for a strong engineer who excels at turning AI designs into reliable, secure, and measurable production capabilities. Working within established architectures and engineering patterns, you will build and deliver predictive, generative, and agentic AI systems that automate complex healthcare workflows and unlock insights from large-scale healthcare data. You will partner closely with Product, Engineering, AI Science, and business stakeholders to deliver production-ready AI solutions for your workstream. You will lead the technical execution of features from prototype through production, contribute to engineering standards, and mentor Senior and Junior engineers.

JOB ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Design, build, deploy, and operate production AI applications and services within established architectures and platform standards.
* Implement agentic AI systems, including well-documented tool definitions and schemas, orchestration, memory and context management, workflow execution, and human-in-the-loop controls, following established patterns.
* Build reliable RAG and knowledge-retrieval capabilities using embeddings, vector databases, chunking and indexing strategies, and enterprise knowledge sources.
* Develop and maintain evaluation harnesses and observability for the AI systems you deliver, covering accuracy, reliability, safety, latency, and cost, including failure-mode and hallucination analysis.
* Implement guardrails and appropriate human oversight for agent behavior in production, in line with team standards.
* Drive end-to-end delivery of your workstream from prototype through production, including integration with enterprise systems, monitoring, and ongoing improvement.
* Partner with Product and AI Science to translate defined requirements into technical designs, delivery plans, and measurable outcomes.
* Ensure secure and responsible use of AI, including privacy, PHI/PII protection, auditability, and compliance with HIPAA and applicable data-governance requirements.
* Lead the technical execution of a feature or workstream; conduct code and design reviews and uphold engineering quality within your team.
* Mentor Senior and Junior engineers and contribute to a culture of technical excellence, continuous learning, and pragmatic innovation.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Education
* Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, a quantitative discipline, or a related field required.
* Master's degree or PhD preferred.
Experience
* 7+ years of hands-on experience in software engineering, machine learning engineering, applied AI, or a related technical discipline.
* 3+ years of experience building and delivering production-grade ML or AI systems.
* 2+ years of experience building with generative AI, LLMs, RAG, and/or agentic AI systems.
* Demonstrated experience owning significant features or components from concept through production deployment.
Technical Skills
* Strong software engineering skills, including advanced Python proficiency and experience building scalable services and APIs.
* Solid foundation in machine learning, deep learning, statistics, and model lifecycle management.
* Experience with agentic AI frameworks and patterns, such as LangGraph, LangChain, AutoGen, CrewAI, or equivalent.
* Experience building AI agents with tool use, orchestration, memory, and guardrails.
* Experience building RAG pipelines, embeddings, vector search, and retrieval systems.
* Experience implementing evaluation and observability for ML and LLM systems, including accuracy, reliability, safety, latency, and cost.
* Experience with MLOps/LLMOps practices, including CI/CD, model and prompt versioning, monitoring, experimentation, and incident troubleshooting.
* Experience with cloud environments and large-scale data platforms.
* Experience with deep-learning frameworks such as PyTorch or TensorFlow.
Other Skills
* Strong problem-solving, critical-thinking, communication, and organizational skills.
* Ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
* Ability to operate effectively in a fast-moving, cross-functional environment.
Preferred Qualifications
* Experience in healthcare, health technology, insurance, claims, payment integrity, or other regulated industries.
* Experience building AI systems that process sensitive data, including PHI or PII.
* Experience with process automation and integration across enterprise workflows and systems.

COMPENSATION:
The salary range for this position is $140-170K. Specific offers take into account a candidate's education, experience and skills, as well as the candidate's work location and internal equity. This position is also eligible for health insurance, 401k and bonus opportunity.
