Job Summary

The Chaplain Resident provides pastoral care and support to patients, families, and staff in the hospital.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Visits patients and their families on assigned clinical areas and responds to referrals for pastoral care throughout the Grady Health System.
  • Conducts pastoral assessments for patients and their families using the EPIC electronic charting and/or the chaplaincy services log book; and is available to the staff as consultant regarding the pastoral/spiritual needs of the patients.
  • Refers patients and/or staff to clergy persons or counselors when request or referrals are made; and assists visiting clergy or other spiritual or religious leaders in providing pastoral care to patients and their families.
  • Provides a pastoral presence for staff in assigned clinical areas and participates as a member of the Interdisciplinary team through regularly scheduled meetings
  • Attends clinical pastoral education seminars, in-service events and other educational opportunties to enhance pastoral skills and competence. Also participates in conferences and discussions with medical personal as they pertain to the ministry and care of the sick and dying.
  • Conducts and/or plans religious services as appropriate and administers the sacraments to inpatients and out patients as requested when appropriate.

Complete one (1) unit of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) through the Association for Clinical Pastoral Education (ACPE) prior to applying for the chaplain resident position.
Participates fully in the Clinical pastoral Education program and is admitted to the program through the center for Chaplaincy and CPE, Care and Counseling Center of Georgia.
Participates in On Call rotations at nights, holidays, and during weekends for Grady Health System and emergent needs at CHOA HS, in conjunction with other chaplain residents.
