Office Clerk

SUMMARY:

Under the supervision of the Manager/Supervisor, performs a variety of clerical, data entry, record retrieval and filing duties in support of assigned department. Maintains patient confidentiality at all times.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Assists patients, visitors and other customers in person or via the telephone system.

• May perform data entry regarding admissions, discharges and transfers according to established procedures.

• May type correspondence or other documents to support department needs.

• Provide telephone support for department areas area when required. Take and relay messages and give limited factual information.

• May operate a single or multi-line telephone.

• Answer telephone responding to routine questions and requests, referring other requests to appropriate personnel or record message.

• File all records in the appropriate location.

• Book appointments for patients or maintain supervisor calendar.

• Assist department clerical staff in various duties to avoid backlogs.

• Perform other related clerical duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

BASIC KNOWLEDGE:

• Equivalent to completion of high school.

• Keyboard and data entry knowledge required.

• Knowledge of medical terminology preferred.

EXPERIENCE:

• Three months of on the job experience in the office environment.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Patient care environment; hazards are minimized by adherence to established safety precautions.
