Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Clinical Services Representative I within the Office for Clinical Affairs at the Rutgers School of Dental Medicine (
RSDM).
Under general supervision, the Clinical Services Representative I carries out a variety of front desk services related to cash collection and patient registration. In addition, the incumbent posts payments, enters and updates patient demographic and insurance information, and collects co-payments. The Clinical Services Representative I also serves as receptionist for the Screening area and any reception area of the Rutgers School of Dental Medicine, Office for Clinical Affairs. Additionally, the incumbent makes patient appointments and maintains patient schedules and records as they relate to clinical activities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:
- Registers patients presenting for Screening and treatment at Rutgers School of Dental Medicine. Enters all biographic and insurance information into axiUm. Verifies patient identification as required by RSDM policies. Audits patient demographic data, address and telephone numbers.
- Obtains a copy of the patient Medicaid/Medicaid HMO card monthly, verifies and updates information as needed.
- Verifies patient private insurance eligibility.
- Ensures that the designated insurance copayment is collected before patient is seen.
- Responsible for the collection and posting of patient payments. Ensures that patient payments are recorded properly. Prepares computer receipts for patients.
- Keeps axiUm appointment book filled with patients as directed by Screening doctor.
- Responds with good customer service to patient inquiries or transfers, as appropriate, to a financial coordinator.
- Prepares and balances receipts daily for the bank deposit. Endorses all checks with RSDM stamp and ensures that deposit is placed in a secure lock bag.
- Proves cash collections daily according to the procedures established by the Head Cashier.

Qualifications
| Minimum Education and Experience |
- Three (3) years of progressively responsible clerical experience required, of which at least one (1) year must have been in a business setting involving billing and collection or medical insurance activities.

- Prior experience accessing and retrieving information from a computer database required.
- ICD9 and CPT coding knowledge required.
- Demonstrated proficiency with billing and collection software required.
- Demonstrated quantitative orientation and strong background in financial transactions and record keeping required.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions required.
- Ability to work in a stressful environment while maintaining a professional demeanor and maintain a high-level of customer service orientation required.
