Posting Summary
The National Transit Institute ( NTI), housed at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, seeks to hire several course facilitators for a range of course topics aligned with the Federal Transit Administration ( FTA) requirements. The facilitators will present course materials and assist with other requirements related to course instruction. NTI is currently seeking facilitators with public transit experience and subject matter expertise in one or more of the following key areas (contextualized to transit and FTA Requirements):

  • Transit Planning
  • Alternative Fuel Vehicles
  • Transit Financial Planning
  • Paratransit Management and ADA
  • Transportation Conformity
  • Transit Safety
  • Transit Project Management
  • Leadership and Professional Development
  • Transit Oriented Development (TOD)
  • Transit Crisis Communication


The National Transit Institute ( NTI) was established under the Intermodal Surface Transportation Efficiency Act of 1991 to develop, promote, and deliver training and educational programs for the public transit industry. NTI identifies needs and promotes, develops, and delivers high-quality training programs and instructional materials through cooperative partnerships with the federal government, the transit industry, educational institutions, and related associations.

NTI's federally funded training programs are offered virtually and in person by highly skilled course facilitators with industry expertise. NTI course facilitators are responsible for providing effective and engaging learning experiences, both virtually and in person, by presenting course materials, leading experiential learning activities, facilitating group discussions, and performing a variety of training and administrative functions. NTI course facilitators are also required to leverage their industry knowledge and expertise to serve as subject matter experts for the development of course content.

Minimum Education and Experience
Candidates must have a minimum of seven years of experience in the public transportation industry; experience facilitating training, programs, meetings, etc., in-person and virtually; and experience serving as a subject matter expert in one or more of the key subject areas identified. Candidates must also have experience contributing to content development.
Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
The candidate must have a thorough understanding of how public transportation operates and how transportation services are delivered to the public. Must possess practitioner experience in one or more of the identified key areas. Candidates must understand and be able to clearly communicate federal compliance requirements related to one or more of the identified areas as applicable.
Candidates must possess experience with in-person and virtual facilitation, utilizing associated tools and best practices, including but not limited to virtual platforms (Zoom and MS Teams), experiential learning activities, and classroom management. Candidates should be able to collaborate with course designers as subject matter experts to support the development of course content.
Preferred Qualifications
Equipment Utilized
Laptops, computers, AV equipment, projectors, virtual meeting/facilitation platforms (including launching polls and breakout rooms), training evaluation tools, and other associated facilitation tools.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
Must be able to stand and talk for prolonged periods of time. Must be able to present course information and materials for prolonged periods of time, with minimal breaks, both in-person and virtually.
Must be available to travel throughout the U.S. to facilitate in-person courses. Must have access to high-speed Internet to facilitate virtual courses.
