WORK SHIFT DAY (United States of America)SUMMARY OF DUTIES Merit Medical is seeking a highly motivated Principal Electrical Engineer (or a Senior Electrical Engineer) to spearhead the design, development, and long-term sustainability of our advanced medical device portfolio.This individual will lead the design, development, integration, verification, and lifecycle management of advanced medical device systems that combine embedded electronics, imaging technologies, sensors, software, firmware, and data acquisition capabilities. The successful candidate will work across the full product lifecycle, from early architecture and concept development through regulatory approval, launch, and post-market support. This role requires deep expertise in both hardware and software development, strong systems engineering skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams including software, mechanical, clinical, quality, regulatory, manufacturing, and marketing. The engineer will serve as a technical leader responsible for driving innovative solutions while ensuring compliance with medical device design controls, risk management processes, and applicable international standards. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS PERFORMED 1. Develops and applies advanced theories and research techniques in the investigation and solution of complex and advanced technical problems on the forefront of new technologies. 2. Design complex mixed-signal, multi-layer PCBs (analog, high-speed digital, RF, and power distribution) using tools like Altium Designer or similar. 3. Conducts complete and conceptually related studies to approach technical problems, whereas the problems are difficult to define, require unconventional or novel approaches, and require sophisticated research techniques. 4. Performs technical work where available guides and precedents contain critical gaps, are only partially related to the problem, or may be largely lacking due to the novel character of the project. 5. Generally, contributes inventions, new designs, or techniques which are of material significance in the solution of specific problems. 6. As a staff technical specialist, keeps abreast of new scientific methods and developments affecting the organization for the purpose of recommending changes in emphasis of programs or new design programs warranted by such developments. 7. Plans, organizes, and supervises the work of engineers or technicians and may be assisted on various engineering projects. 8. May provide input and direction to management on various issues. 9. Works on special projects, writes ECN's, and creates prototypes. 10. Review existing patents to determine infringement status as well as generate new IP during the course of development projects. 11. Design and develop robust firmware and software for embedded microcontrollers. 12. Establish seamless communication and integration between physical hardware and code. 13.
