Schedule: Monday-Friday | 7:30 AM-5:30 PM

Duration: 3+ months, with potential for extension/conversion


Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Phlebotomist II / Patient Service Technician (PST) to join our team in Kernersville, NC. The ideal candidate will have strong phlebotomy and patient-care skills and be comfortable working in a busy laboratory environment.

This position will involve approximately 40 blood draws per day, along with urine and other specimen collections. The role primarily supports a geriatric patient population and requires excellent communication, patience, accuracy, and a friendly bedside manner.

Key Responsibilities

Perform venipuncture and blood collection using straight needles and butterfly needles.

Perform urine and other specimen collections as required.

Collect, label, process, and prepare specimens according to established procedures.

Properly match laboratory requisitions with specimen tubes and patient information.

Verify physician orders, test requisitions, and computer-generated labels for accuracy.

Label, centrifuge, split, freeze, and package specimens according to test requirements.

Prepare specimens for transportation and store samples at the appropriate temperature and conditions.

Accurately update and maintain patient information in laboratory systems.

Explain the blood-drawing and specimen-collection process clearly and courteously to patients.

Provide a positive and professional patient experience.

Follow all laboratory, safety, infection-control, and specimen-handling procedures.

Perform equipment maintenance, record required maintenance information, and assist with decontamination activities.

Troubleshoot routine workflow issues and make recommendations to improve efficiency.

Work collaboratively with the laboratory and patient-care team.

Maintain accuracy and attention to detail while working in a fast-paced environment.

Required Qualifications

Previous phlebotomy experience.

Strong venipuncture skills, including experience with straight needles and butterfly needles.

Ability to perform approximately 40 blood draws per day.

Experience with specimen labeling, processing, centrifugation, and preparation.

Strong patient-care and communication skills.

Ability to work effectively as part of a team.

Comfortable working with geriatric patients.

Ability to stand for approximately 60-75% of the workday.

Ability to work Monday-Friday, approximately 7:30 AM-5:30 PM.

Reliable attendance and availability are essential.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience working in a patient service center, outpatient laboratory, physician office, hospital, or similar healthcare setting.

Experience handling urine and other non-blood specimens.

Experience with specimen processing and laboratory procedures.

Experience working in a high-volume phlebotomy environment.

Strong customer service and patient-care skills.

Previous experience working with geriatric patients.

Training

Approximately 2 weeks of training will be provided at the start of the assignment.
