The Constant Observer plays a vital role in promoting patient safety through continuous one-to-one observation of patients who require enhanced monitoring. This clinical support position focuses on maintaining a safe environment, recognizing changes in patient behavior, and communicating concerns promptly to the healthcare team.

As members of a dedicated department, Constant Observers will partner closely with nursing staff and interdisciplinary teams to provide exceptional patient-centered care.

Under direct supervision this position is accountable to the bedside RN and charge nurse to facilitate a safe and secure environment for the patient, family and providers in the department in completion of the duties delegated to them for the shift and maintaining clear communication between the needs of the patient through the RN and Charge Nurse. These activities focus on maintaining a safe, hazard free, clean environment which facilitates patient focused care.

Position Responsibilities



  • Provide continuous one-to-one observations of assigned patients.
  • Maintain a safe environment and immediately report safety concerns.
  • Observe and communicate changes in patient behavior, or activity
  • Utilize de-escalation techniques and therapeutic communication when appropriate.
  • Collaborate with nurses and other members of the healthcare team.
  • Accurately observe and document required information.
  • Support Providence's mission, values, and commitment to patient safety.


Required Qualifications:



  • Coursework/Training and Medical Terminology course Or Successful completion of hospital Medical terminology test within 90 days of hire.
  • Within 30 days of hire: National Provider BLS - American Heart Association


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Completed training as a Certified Nursing Assistant.
  • 6 months of Health care experience.

Posted are the minimum and the maximum wage rates on the wage range for this position. The successful candidate's placement on the wage range for this position will be determined based upon relevant job experience and other applicable factors. These amounts are the base pay range; additional compensation may be available for this role, such as shift differentials, standby/on-call, overtime, premiums, extra shift incentives, or bonus opportunities.
