The Role

At Morningstar, we know we can only empower investors if our people feel empowered. Great leaders sit at the center of that.

We're looking for a Director, Leadership & Organizational Development to lead how we build, strengthen, and sustain leadership capability across the firm. You'll shape our enterprise leadership development strategy, bring a practical internal consulting lens to organizational needs, and design development experiences that move leaders and the business forward. This role will build on our cutting-edge leadership development portfolio while bringing fresh thinking, practical internal consulting, and innovative experiential design to our global talent agenda.

This role is based in Chicago. You'll partner with colleagues and stakeholders globally and report to the Global Head of Talent Management.

What You'll Do

Leadership Development Strategy

  • Lead and evolve Morningstar's enterprise leadership development portfolio, ensuring flagship experiences stay credible, distinctive, globally relevant, and connected to business priorities.

  • Design practical, high-impact development experiences for leaders at critical career stages: emerging, high-potential, senior, and enterprise leaders.

  • Build experiential learning approaches, including simulations, action learning, leadership labs, cohorts, and business challenges, that help leaders apply capabilities in real work.

Organizational Development & Internal Consulting

  • Serve as an internal consultant to senior leaders, diagnosing leadership, organizational effectiveness, and team performance challenges and designing practical interventions that improve execution and collaboration.

  • Facilitate leadership team sessions and strategic working sessions that clarify priorities, roles, decision rights, ways of working, and accountability for outcomes.

  • Partner with Workforce Planning and other People & Culture teams to translate workforce trends, business strategy, and evolving ways of working into leadership capability and organizational effectiveness priorities.

Connected Talent Strategy

  • Connect leadership development to broader talent priorities: succession, internal mobility, career growth, manager effectiveness, culture, engagement, and AI-enabled changes in how we work.

  • Use data, talent insights, and program metrics to improve offerings, demonstrate impact, and focus investments on measurable business and talent outcomes.

  • Lead complex, high-visibility initiatives from concept through execution, managing stakeholders, vendors, and participant experience.

What We're Looking For

  • 10+ years of progressive experience in leadership development, organization development, organizational effectiveness, talent management, human capital consulting, or a related field.

  • Proven ability to design and deliver leadership experiences that improve leader capability, accelerate readiness, and support business priorities in a complex, global organization.

  • Strong internal or external consulting judgment, with experience diagnosing business and organizational needs, advising senior leaders, and turning strategy into practical talent or organization effectiveness solutions.

  • Track record of collaborating and influencing within an organization across businesses, regions and functions to create buy-in, ensure alignment and deliver impactful talent solutions.

  • Experience improving leadership team effectiveness, role clarity, operating rhythms, culture, engagement, change management, or workforce transformation outcomes.

  • Track record of building experiential, memorable, and practical development solutions that move beyond traditional training and help leaders solve real business challenges.

  • Executive presence and facilitation skills sufficient to lead senior-level discussions, surface tradeoffs, and create alignment across diverse perspectives.

  • Ability to influence without authority and build trusted partnerships with business leaders, HRBPs, Talent Management, Workforce Planning, and other People & Culture partners.

  • Data-informed solutioning, with the ability to use feedback, talent insights, engagement data, and program metrics to sharpen decisions and show impact.

  • Clear, concise communication skills, including the ability to simplify complexity and tailor messages for senior audiences.

Preferred

  • Experience in knowledge-intensive industries: financial services, fintech, investment research, asset management, data, technology, or consulting.

  • Familiarity with assessment tools, coaching frameworks, leadership models, talent reviews, succession planning, organization design, workforce planning, or AI-enabled learning tools.
