IMEG is hiring a Planning Intern in New York, NY. Over 10-12 weeks, you will assist the planning team with projects and tasks that build practical experience in the field of planning. This role supports research, data collection, and community engagement efforts that contribute to the development and implementation of planning initiatives. In this role, you will help prepare planning documents, participate in public meetings and workshops, support zoning and community plan reviews, and conduct site visits. You will also work with public officials, developers, and community members on public-sector transportation, planning, urban design, and environmental work concentrated across Connecticut and the Northeast. Help prepare maps, reports, and planning documents using GIS software and other tools. Participate in public meetings and workshops to gather community input and share information on planning initiatives. Assist in reviewing zoning applications and community plans for compliance with local regulations and ordinances. Conduct site visits to gather data and assess compliance with planning regulations. Work with public officials, developers, and community members to support planning projects. Help prepare reports and presentations that communicate planning proposals and findings to stakeholders. Support senior planners in managing planning projects and initiatives. What You'll Bring Required Education Completed at least 2 years towards a Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Planning, Environment Studies, Architecture, or Arts, or equivalent required Experience None listed. Required Skills/Abilities Experience with AutoCAD, ArcGIS, Adobe Suite, and SketchUp Strong interest in design consulting Ability to clearly communicate in both oral and written communication to individuals or groups Proficient with MS Office Suite including but not limited to Word, Excel, and Outlook Preferred Prior internship experience in the consulting industry preferred Physical Requirements Regularly required to sit, walk, stand, talk, see, hear, and lift objects up to 25 pounds Occasionally required to drive, kneel, stoop, crouch, crawl, reach with hands or arms, and grasp or pull Will have limited exposure to outside weather conditions and loud noises About the Team Public-sector transportation, planning, urban design, and environmental work concentrated across Connecticut and the Northeast. Active portfolio includes transportation planning, community planning, urban design, environmental and natural resource planning, and landscape architecture. Recent work includes Greater Hartford Mobility Study, Government (City/County/State), and Fairfield POCD, Government (City/County/State). For positions available in multiple locations, the minimums and maximums may vary based on work location. Individual compensation will be determined based on job-related factors, including the candidate's experience, education, knowledge, skills, abilities, and licensure and certifications.
