THE POSITION: THE OPPORTUNITY: The Inland Empire Utilities Agency is looking for a hands-on, detail-oriented, and safety-focused professional to join our team as a Warehouse Technician I-III (DOQ). This is an exciting opportunity to play an important role in keeping the Agency's operations moving by ensuring employees have the materials, parts, tools, and equipment they need to maintain and operate critical water and wastewater infrastructure. Reporting to a Warehouse Supervisor, Warehouse Technicians are an essential part of the Agency's day-to-day operations. From receiving and inspecting deliveries to managing inventory, operating material-handling equipment, and delivering supplies to facilities throughout the Agency, you will help ensure the right materials are available at the right time and in the right place. In this hands-on position, you will work with a wide variety of materials, parts, tools, equipment, inventory systems, and vendors. Your responsibilities may include receiving and inspecting shipments, issuing and delivering materials, maintaining accurate inventory records, conducting cycle counts, operating forklifts and other warehouse equipment, assisting with purchasing, and helping maintain a clean, organized, and safe warehouse environment. EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE: A typical way of obtaining the knowledge, skills and abilities outlined above is: Graduation from high school or GED equivalent. Warehouse Technician I At least one year of progressively responsible experience in warehousing, storekeeping, inventory control or closely related experience in a warehouse environment; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Experience in a public agency is preferred. Warehouse Technician II At least two years of progressively responsible experience in warehousing, storekeeping, inventory control or closely related experience in a warehouse environment including Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) knowledge and training; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Experience in a public agency is preferred. Warehouse Technician III A Warehouse Technician II may be considered for advancement to Warehouse Technician III after demonstrating proficiency to perform the full range of duties of the latter class. Proficiency criteria and the process for demonstrating performance at the levels established in the criteria are established jointly by hiring authorities and the Human Resources Department including knowledge and experience in the warehouse and inventory management systems, procedures, standards, materials and supplies, and completion of Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) Hazardous Waste Management Training. LICENSES; CERTIFICATES; SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Warehouse Technician I A valid California Class C driver's license and the ability to maintain insurability under the Agency's vehicle insurance program. Warehouse Technician II/III A valid California Class C driver's license and the ability to maintain insurability under the Agency's vehicle insurance program. Some assignments require a Forklift Operation Certificate as a condition of employment. Warehouse Technician III - At Assignment, the completion of Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) Hazardous Waste Management Training is required. Skills and Abilities Ability to work safely in a warehouse and utility environment, following established safety practices such as proper material-handling techniques, equipment safety procedures, and use of personal protective equipment to support a safe and compliant workplace. Basic knowledge of, or ability to learn, the operation of equipment such as forklifts, pallet jacks, hand trucks, hoists, trucks, and other warehouse tools and equipment; desirable experience includes operating material-handling equipment and familiarity with computerized inventory or warehouse management systems. Ability to perform routine receiving, stocking, inventory, and warehouse maintenance activities, with a willingness to develop skills in inventory control, cycle counting, materials management, purchasing, and equipment operation. Flexibility to adapt to changing work assignments, learn new materials and processes, and respond to the operational needs of Agency departments; desirable ability to assist with inventory discrepancies, material requests, deliveries, and other warehouse needs to help maintain efficient and reliable Agency operations.
