About the Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced Commissioning Technician to support field installation, modification, testing, troubleshooting, and commissioning of rail vehicles and complex electromechanical equipment in Seattle, WA.
This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on technician with strong electrical and mechanical troubleshooting skills who enjoys solving complex technical problems in a field environment. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working from electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, engineering documentation, and technical instructions while independently diagnosing and resolving equipment issues.
This position is temp-to-perm, providing an opportunity to demonstrate your technical expertise and transition into a long-term career with the client.
What You'll Do
  • Perform field modifications, retrofits, upgrades, and installation activities on rail vehicles and associated equipment.
  • Troubleshoot electrical systems ranging from 24VDC control circuits through 480VAC power systems.
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and electromechanical systems.
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, mechanical drawings, engineering documentation, and installation instructions.
  • Verify installations and perform functional testing to ensure systems operate according to engineering requirements.
  • Perform commissioning, startup, inspections, and operational validation activities.
  • Identify equipment failures, determine root causes, and implement appropriate corrective actions.
  • Use electrical test equipment such as multimeters, clamp meters, insulation testers, and other diagnostic tools.
  • Document work performed, deficiencies identified, corrective actions, testing results, and commissioning activities.
  • Support field service, startup, warranty, and customer-site activities as needed.
  • Work independently while maintaining high standards for safety, quality, and workmanship.
  • Communicate technical issues and project status clearly with engineering, management, and other technical teams.
Job Requirements
Required Qualifications
  • Strong working knowledge of electrical systems from 24VDC through 480VAC.
  • Hands-on experience troubleshooting electrical, mechanical, and electromechanical equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, technical manuals, and engineering documentation.
  • Experience performing equipment modifications, installations, testing, or commissioning.
  • Proficiency using electrical test and diagnostic equipment.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and experience using hand tools, power tools, and measuring equipment.
  • Ability to troubleshoot problems independently and make sound technical decisions.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety and quality.
  • Ability to work effectively in a field/industrial environment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience commissioning rail vehicles, transit systems, locomotives, industrial machinery, or other complex electromechanical equipment.
  • Previous field service, startup, commissioning, or customer-site experience.
  • Experience with PLC-controlled equipment or vehicle control systems.
  • Familiarity with CAN communication networks or similar control/communication systems.
  • Experience using software-assisted diagnostic systems.
  • Experience with root-cause analysis and corrective action processes.
