About this Role - Project Engineer II We are looking for a talented Project Engineer II who has a passion for quality construction. This position is responsible for providing technical support to Substation Project Managers and field supervision across our high voltage substation portfolio, spanning 69kV through 345kV substation projects. This role bridges engineering and construction - translating design documents into executable field plans, coordinating outage and construction sequencing with utility clients, and driving the technical development of the overall substation construction plan. This is a high-visibility position for an early-career engineer or project professional looking to move from design or coordination work into hands-on construction planning. What You'll Do Outage & Sequence Planning - Develop outage, switching, construction and energization sequencing plans in coordination with Project Managers, field supervision, and utility system operations - Serve as a technical point of contact with client operations groups for clearance requests, switching orders, and outage window negotiation - Identify sequencing constraints and interdependencies early; recommend alternatives that reduce outage duration and risk - Track outage commitments and communicate schedule impacts to the project team Technical Scope & Drawing Review - Review technical scope documents, specifications, and construction drawing packages - one-lines, three-lines, plan and section, grounding, conduit and raceway, and protection & control schematics and wiring diagrams - Identify constructability issues, scope gaps, drawing conflicts, and long-lead equipment risks prior to mobilization - Prepare and track RFIs, submittals, and design clarifications with the engineer of record and client - Support red-line field markups and as-built review, and assist with the review of commissioning and testing documentation Construction Plan Development - Support development of the overall substation construction execution plan, including work sequencing, resource loading, and phasing - Provide input and support the development of the project schedules - Support project turnover, closeout, and lessons-learned documentation Safety & Compliance - Support development of job hazard analyses, switching safety plans, and energized work protocols in partnership with the project team - Maintain working familiarity with OSHA 1910.269, NESC, NFPA 70E, and applicable NERC reliability standards as they affect construction and outage execution - Perform safety assessments on active construction projects, as well as document good catches, lessons learned and value-added achievements as they are noted. What You'll Bring - Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (power systems emphasis strongly preferred) - 3-5 years of experience in high voltage electrical engineering, substation design, utility operations, or electrical construction project management - Ability to read and interpret substation one-lines, three-lines, P&C schematics, wiring diagrams, and civil/structural drawings - Proficiency with Microsoft Office; working knowledge of Primavera P6 and/or MS Project - Strong written and verbal communication skills; able to work effectively with field craft, project management, engineering, and client personnel - Willingness to travel regionally to project sites (estimated 25-40%) - Valid driver's license and ability to pass a background check and drug screen Preferred Qualifications - Direct experience with substation projects in the 69kV-345kV class - Prior exposure to outage coordination, switching orders, or utility system operations - Familiarity with protection & control commissioning and testing sequences What You'll Get - 401(k) with company match (Traditional & Roth) - Paid Holidays and PTO - Medical, Dental, and Vision - Flexible Spending Accounts - Health Savings Account - Accident Insurance - Hospital Indemnity Insurance - Critical Illness Insurance - LifeLock Identity Theft Protection - Employee Discounts - Short-Term & Long-Term Disability For more benefit details click here! | |
