Job Summary

Temporary Employment Services (TES) Financial Analyst Pool

Temporary Employment Services (TES) Financial Analyst Employees can perform a variety of analytical functions for multiple departments during the course of employment. Temporary Assignments may involve activities such as contract and grant fiscal and administrative management, manage department income and expense contracts, review prepared budgets and make recommendations for changes and necessary corrections, develop and implement operational policies and procedures to produce a sound audit trail, review and monitor budget plans once approved, prepare faculty and staff payroll expenditure transfers, prepare cost recovery plans, and independently provide high level financial management and analysis and more.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Advanced spreadsheet, word-processing, database, presentation, and e-mail software skills (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint), and ability to design user friendly accounting reports.

  • In-depth knowledge of federal and/or private grant administration, analysis, and financial reporting policies.

  • Experience performing analytical work, analyzing complex information, performing independent research, presenting complex data in a way that facilitates decision-making and making strategic recommendations.

  • Experience preparing financial reports, developing financial projections (long and short term)

  • Solid knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and University accounting policies and procedures.

  • Demonstrated experience and working knowledge of financial and payroll systems (including Decision Support and UC Path), or similarly complex administrative systems.

  • Strong organizational and time management skills to establish goals, prioritize and coordinate multiple work assignments and deadlines.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to present and communicate technical and non-technical information clearly, concisely, and effectively to a variety group of individuals.

  • Demonstrated experience at exercising administrative judgment and assuming responsibility for decisions, consequences, and results having an impact on people, costs, and/or quality of service within functional area Ability to complete tasks accurately, neatly, and quickly under pressure of deadlines and other duties.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Flexibility, willingness to accept Temporary Assignments regardless of classification and/or pay rate

  • The ability to learn quickly and multitask.

  • Prior experience managing a portfolio of external grants and contracts.

  • Experience with contracts and grants financial systems such as Cayuse and Effort Reporting.

  • Prior experience with UC Davis financial systems preferred.

  • Skill to organize and manage multiple projects simultaneously and to set priorities to effect project completion within stated deadlines. Experience working directly with faculty and the ability to maintain respect and confidentiality.

Department Description

  • Temporary Employment Services assigns jobs throughout UC Davis Campus (Davis) and UC Davis Health (Sacramento) encompassing a wide variety of work environments.

  • Assignments can last from a month to two years depending on the position and the need of the department.

  • Employees are expected to remain flexible when accepting temporary assignments as job duties and pay rates will vary.

  • May be required to work occasional overtime, evenings, and/or weekends depending upon the assignment.

  • Positions require a background check and may require a pre-placement medical exam.

  • Must complete mandatory training within 15 days from start date of first assignment. In addition, those assigned at UCDHS must complete the HIPAA Privacy and Security Training prior to placement.

  • A valid CA Driver's License may be required for some assignments.

  • UC Davis is a smoke and tobacco free campus. Smoking, the use of smokeless tobacco products, and the use of unregulated nicotine products (e-cigarettes) will be strictly prohibited on any UC Davis owned or leased property, indoors and outdoors, including parking lots and residential space

  • Salary or Pay Range: Pay Rates vary depending upon classification and level.

For example; Financial Analyst 1 $30.98, Financial Analyst 2 $37.52hr.

  • Salary Frequency: most assignments pay biweekly however there are some exceptions

  • Appointment Type: Temporary/Floater

  • Percentage of Time: 50-100

  • Shift Hours: varies, although most assignments are during standard business hours

  • Location: varies as assignments can be in Sacramento or Davis

Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • Work on computer, keyboard, mouse and screen for extended periods of time.

  • Sit, stand or walk for extended periods of time.

  • Maneuver items weighing up to 25 lbs.

Special Requirements

  • This position is a critical position and may be subject to a background check and drug screen. Employment is contingent upon successful completion of background investigation including criminal history, identity checks and drug screen.
