Test Engineer l - Mechanical

SAF-HOLLAND is seeking a skilled and analytical Test Engineer I - Mechanical to support the design, execution, and analysis of product validation testing. In this role, you will work closely with engineering teams to develop testing strategies, design test systems, analyze data, and help ensure our products meet the highest standards of performance, quality, and durability.

• Review incoming test requests and ensure requirements are clearly defined.
• Identify appropriate test lab equipment to satisfy testing objectives.
• Collaborate with lab mechanics and technicians to prepare and execute tests.
• Ensure all testing is completed according to established requirements.
• Document and communicate results through detailed test reports.

• Design test equipment and control systems to perform product validation testing.
• Develop 3D CAD models and perform structural analysis (FEA).
• Design electrical and hydraulic circuits used in testing applications.
• Create and modify control programs for automated testing systems.
• Integrate sensors and instrumentation into testing environments.

• Partner with engineering teams throughout the product development process.
• Communicate project timelines and testing status effectively.
• Support data acquisition planning and sensor selection activities.
• Work alongside durability engineers to compare test results with fatigue life predictions.
• Participate in design reviews and provide technical recommendations to improve products and services.

• Stay current on advances in testing technology and methodologies.
• Support compliance with quality standards and calibration requirements.
• Participate in technical committees and industry initiatives as needed.

• Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from an ABET-accredited university.
• Two to five years of experience in a manufacturing test laboratory, machinery design environment, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Valid Driver's License.

Experience or knowledge in:

• Design of experiments and failure analysis.
• Static and fatigue testing principles.
• Root cause analysis and test fixture design.
• Hydraulic power systems and circuit design.
• Electrical circuits, sensors, and automated equipment.
• Data acquisition systems and instrumentation.
• Interpretation of technical drawings, specifications, and testing standards.
• Working with external testing laboratories and technical authorities.

Experience with one or more of the following is preferred:

• SOLIDWORKS or other 3D CAD software
• Ansys
• nCODE
• LabView
• MATLAB
• MathCAD
• MTS software
• PLC/Automation Controller programming software
• Microsoft Office Suite, including advanced Excel functionality
• Origin or similar data analysis software.

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to collect, interpret, and present complex technical data.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and collaborate across engineering disciplines.
• Passion for innovation, testing, and continuous improvement.

• Ability to work in both office and laboratory environments.
• Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.
• Willingness to travel approximately 20% as required.
