Job Summary

The Pipe Welder (GMAW/MIG) is responsible for welding carbon steel outlets onto steel pipe for fire sprinkler system applications using both automated welding equipment and manual GMAW (MIG) welding techniques. This production-focused role requires maintaining high standards of quality, safety, and productivity while operating in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. The ideal candidate has hands-on MIG welding experience, machine operation experience, and the ability to identify and repair weld defects.

Job Responsibilities



  • Perform GMAW (MIG) welding on carbon steel pipe and fabricated assemblies.
  • Weld carbon steel outlets onto steel pipe for fire sprinkler system applications.
  • Operate automated and semi-automated welding equipment.
  • Complete specialty welding tasks, including spool pieces, flanges, and related components.
  • Inspect completed welds for quality, alignment, dimensions, end preparations, and weld defects.
  • Repair weld discontinuities and failed welds as required.
  • Read and interpret work instructions, production paperwork, and fabrication documentation.
  • Measure materials accurately using tape measures and other basic measuring tools.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
  • Report equipment malfunctions, maintenance needs, and safety concerns promptly.
  • Meet established production, quality, and safety standards.
  • Follow all company safety policies and manufacturing procedures.


Job Requirements



  • Minimum of one (1) year of GMAW (MIG) welding experience.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of machine operation experience.
  • Experience working in a manufacturing or fabrication environment.
  • Ability to accurately read and use a tape measure.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing quality welds.
  • Ability to identify weld defects and perform weld repairs.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods throughout the workday.
  • Ability to frequently lift and move materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to bend, kneel, reach, and safely work around welding equipment, overhead cranes, and moving materials.
  • Must successfully complete a hands-on GMAW welding test during the interview process.
  • Must provide a personal welding helmet for the interview weld test.
  • Must successfully pass a Manual GMAW 2G Pipe Welding Qualification Test during the first week of employment.


Education



  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
