Explore Career Pathways for Pharmacy Professionals:

  • The pharmacy technician specialist is responsible for the day-to-day operations of technician specialty practice areas (billing, diversion, automation, medication history, and others).
  • Provides user support, perform maintenance activities and troubleshooting, monitor proper functionality, and ensure policies and procedures are both documented and followed.
  • Coordinates upgrade testing activities, education, and serves as the subject matter expert for the technician specialty practice area.
  • Does related work, as required and, under the supervision of a pharmacist, will assist in the technical, non-clinical aspects of preparing medications for dispensing, mixing IVs, managing inventory, and assist in pharmacy operations.

Job Requirements:

  • High School graduate or GED.
  • Must have at least threeyears of previous hospital pharmacy technician experience (inclusive of training programs).
  • One year of experience with an identified specialty system/process.
  • Active Registered Pharmacy Technician in good standing with the Board of Pharmacy, if required by the state of employment.
  • National Pharmacy Technician Certification (CPhT).
  • BLS certification must be obtained within 14 days of hire or transfer into the role and prior to providing direct patient care.

Preferred Job Requirements:

  • Associates/bachelor's degree.
  • PTCB/ASHP Specialty Credentials (applicable to the specialty practice area).
