Overview
The Rutgers Institute for Nicotine and Tobacco Studies (formerly Rutgers Center for Tobacco Studies) is undergoing dynamic and transformative growth. The Rutgers Institute for Nicotine and Tobacco Studies is one of the nation's leading tobacco focused research centers and its faculty have received over $50 million in extramural funding over the past two decades. The Institute's efforts are focused on their mission of reducing and ultimately eliminating, tobacco-related morbidity and mortality.

Five Centers or Programs currently operate at the Institute including a Tobacco Center for Regulatory Science, the Center of Excellence for Rapid Surveillance of Tobacco, the Tobacco Dependence Program, a Tobacco Industry Marketing Program, and a Tobacco Control Law & Policy Resource Center.
Posting Summary
Rutgers is seeking a Post Doctoral Associate for the Institute for Nicotine and Tobacco Studies ( INTS), located in New Brunswick, NJ. Under the direction of the P.I., supports and conducts highly specialized and technical research on cannabis and tobacco marketing and influence at the Rutgers Institute of Nicotine and Tobacco Studies ( INTS). The Postdoctoral Associate will work closely with the Principal Investigator and research team on federally funded and related studies examining cannabis and tobacco product marketing, consumer perceptions, and health behavior.

Duties include:

  • Lead and support research projects examining the marketing of cannabis and tobacco products across digital, social media, retail,product packaging, and other communication channels.
  • Contribute to the design and implementation of observational studies, content analyses, surveys, randomized experiments,qualitative studies, and mixed-methods research.
  • Develop research protocols, coding instruments, codebooks, survey questionnaires, experimental stimuli, interview guides, anddata-collection procedures.
  • Coordinate the collection and management of data from brand websites, social media platforms, direct-to-consumercommunications, online retailers, product packages, surveys, interviews, and other relevant sources.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Doctoral degree in public health, social and behavioral sciences, health communications, communications, health psychology, health education, or a related discipline.
  • Applicants in All But Degree (ABD) status will be considered for interviewing

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with designing experiments informed by commercial marketing and health communication theories.
  • Familiarity with the study of cannabis and tobacco marketing influence and commercial determinants of health.
  • Familiarity with health-related attitudes and behaviors, including but not limited to tobacco use, cannabis use, or alcohol use.
