Your Opportunity as the SeniorHSE Specialist

The Senior HS&E Specialist provides technical leadership and strategic direction for health, safety, and environmental programs at the McCalla facility. This role partners with plant leadership to ensure regulatory compliance, reduce risk, drive continuous improvement, and strengthen the site's safety culture. The Senior HS&E Specialist is responsible for the supervision, coaching, and development of the HS&E Coordinator, while also building organizational capability by developing and mentoring Key Element Owners, Sub-Key Element Owners, and Safety Functional Leaders to drive accountability, engagement, and sustainable performance across the facility.

The Senior HS&E Specialist serves as the site owner for Environmental Key Elements, providing leadership for environmental compliance. An environmental background or experience managing environmental programs is highly desirable.

This position serves as a trusted advisor to operational leaders, providing technical expertise, leadership, and guidance to advance safety and environmental excellence throughout the site.

Location:McCalla, AL

Work Arrangements:Monday to Friday with flexibility for off shift and weekends

In this role you will:

  • Lead implementation and continuous improvement of site health, safety, and environmental programs.
  • Partner with plant leadership to execute HS&E strategy, objectives, and compliance initiatives.
  • Provide technical expertise on OSHA, EPA, ADEM, and company requirements.
  • Lead incident investigations, root cause analyses, and corrective action development.
  • Analyze safety and environmental performance metrics and drive improvement plans.
  • Conduct audits, inspections, and risk assessments to identify and eliminate hazards.
  • Coordinate environmental compliance activities including wastewater, stormwater, waste management, and spill prevention programs.
  • Facilitate safety and environmental training and coach leaders on regulatory compliance and safe work practices.
  • Prepare for and support regulatory inspections, corporate audits, and third-party assessments.
  • Serve as a key resource during emergency response and environmental or safety incidents.
  • Directly supervise the HS&E Coordinator, including performance management, training, workload prioritization, and professional development.
  • Develop and mentor Key Element Owners, Sub-Key Element Owners, and Safety Functional Leaders to strengthen ownership, engagement, and accountability for HS&E performance.
  • Drive employee engagement and foster a culture of accountability, ownership, and continuous improvement.

What we are looking for:

MinimumRequirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Safety, Environmental Science, Occupational Health, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of progressive environmental, health, and safety experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of OSHA, EPA, ADEM, and other applicable regulations.
  • Experience leading incident investigations and implementing corrective actions.
  • Experience supervising or leading employees, teams, or cross-functional initiatives.

Additionalskills and experience that we think would make someone successful in this role:

  • Strong leadership, communication, and influencing skills.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and drive projects to completion.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and HS&E reporting systems.
  • Ability to maintain a regular presence on the manufacturing floor to partner directly with operations teams to identify hazards, verify compliance, and drive continuous improvement in safety and environmental performance.
  • Ability to work flexible hours and respond to plant emergencies as needed.
  • Experience in food manufacturing or consumer packaged goods (CPG).
  • Experience with environmental permitting, air compliance, wastewater, stormwater, waste management, and sustainability programs.
  • Experience implementing and sustaining management systems in a manufacturing environment.
  • ASP, CSP, CHMM, OHST, or similar professional certification.
