Your Role

Gensler's Boston office is seeking a Project Architect - Lab & Sciences to join our team of design thinkers and doers who specialize in helping to tell stories and create experiences in the context of science and technical spaces. What You Will Do
  • Provide design and documentation of Sciences Workplace for a range of projects
  • Develop architectural drawings and specifications to communicate planning concepts for project documentation and construction
  • Apply proper QA/QC methods throughout project
  • Lead periodic project meetings and presentations; ensure client is adequately briefed on project progress
  • Set up project team software parameters and manage standards
  • Participate in user group meetings (heads of departments, specialists, etc.) to collect program needs for Technical and Non Technical spaces
  • Develop a comprehensive understanding of clients' program requirements and standards and policies for completion
  • Assist in the design development, modification and/or review of Design Concepts and solutions, prioritizing sustainably-responsible design
  • Assist in the planning and coordination of lab equipment and lab casework
  • Assist in developing project scope, plan, and services during the contract process. Translate planning concepts into comprehensible terms for clients, designers and project team members
  • Assist in establishing overall project budgets and milestone schedules in coordination with project managers, architects and project engineers
  • Communicate planning concepts to project teams, both verbally and through graphic and written reports
  • Develop architectural drawings and specifications to communicate planning concepts for project documentation and construction
  • Prepare and modify architectural documents, elevations, sections, details, etc.
  • Anticipate and develop solutions to technical and design problems following established standards

Your Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in architecture or equivalent in education or experience required; Master's degree preferred
  • 10+ years of experience in Architecture inclusive of 5+ years of experience focused on programming and planning of all phases of a variety of laboratory types
  • Architecture license required
  • Experience working directly with senior management, scientists, laboratory managers and technicians, facilities and project managers, and other project stakeholders in determining and documenting programmatic requirements
  • Proficiency in Revit required
  • Knowledge of laboratory programming delivery and how design impacts those systems - including space, operational, and equipment programming, as well as MEP systems and lab casework
  • Knowledge of laboratory planning, design, construction documents, construction administration and project construction cost control for lab facilities
  • Demonstrable creativity, passion and interest in design and planning of laboratories within technical facilities. Knowledge of technical and regulatory requirements for laboratory design
  • LEED accredited preferred. Committed to the principles of sustainable design and resilient communities, able to demonstrate this commitment in a portfolio of work
  • Well-rounded, strategic-thinker with an integrated approach to design, management and technical project resolution who can help shape a vision for the future
  • Capable of traveling to and from project sites for attending client, project and construction meetings.

**The base salary range will be estimated between $120,000 - $137,500. Gensler's total compensation package is multi-layered and includes a base salary, two annual bonuses paid in December and June, an Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP), and profit sharing.
