Job Description

The Education Department at Augsburg University invites applications for a non tenure-track, visiting assistant professor in student teaching beginning August 2026. For full consideration, applications should be received by July 26, 2026.

The visiting assistant professor in student teaching works with all Education department programs, faculty, and staff instructing and supporting student teachers, and coordinating and training student teaching supervisors and cooperating teachers. This position will further departmental and institutional vision through equity focused practices and engaging with intentionally diverse teacher candidates and K-12 sites. This person must keep abreast of the education rules related to student teaching for all teacher licensure programs, including departmental and institutional processes as they relate to candidates in the department. The work of coordinating student teaching is equivalent to teaching 4 courses or 4/7 of the position. Three additional courses will be assigned as appropriate to the candidate's area/s of licensure and teaching experience.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Education department faculty and staff, partner schools, and candidates to design and enrich the student teaching experience with attention to equity and social justice oriented teaching
  • Communicate with K - 12 schools and districts to meet the needs of candidates and maintain strong relationships with schools and districts
  • Promote successful completion of student teaching by offering information sessions, regular seminars during the student teaching semester, and facilitating individualized support plans when necessary
  • Provide support to student teaching supervisors and cooperating teachers through responding to communication, arranging training and workshops, and holding regular meetings throughout the student teaching semester
  • Support student teacher supervisors through the process of a student teaching term, including opportunities for connecting student teaching to state required performance assessments and departmental requirements
  • Maintain records of supervisor and cooperating teacher trainings for state and departmental reporting
  • Stay current on state licensing requirements for teachers across all programs.
  • Provide feedback to the department on procedures and programming related to student teaching
  • Participate in Metro and State placement coordinator meetings and MACTE Placement Directors initiatives, collaborating with placement directors at other institutions and meeting with each group throughout the year
  • Support the Placement Coordinator with verification processes and data entry
  • Coordinate compensation for cooperating teachers.
  • Collaborate with the Placement Coordinator regarding cooperation and partnership agreements, communication with partner schools, identification of high-quality cooperating teachers and supervisors.
  • Coordinate with members of the Education Department to make updates to handbooks, policies, and procedures for student teaching and other pertaining areas.
  • All other duties as apparent or assigned by supervisor(s).

Service to the Department/University

As faculty in student teaching, other duties done as service to the department and university include:

  • Recommending for hire to the chair and mentoring adjuncts who supervise student teachers
  • Reviewing program components and bringing updated syllabi to department and university for review
  • Serve on departmental and university Committees
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Education
  • Experience with instructional coaching through mentoring student teachers or new E-12 teachers.
  • Holds or has held a professional teaching license
  • At least three years of experience as a teacher-of-record within a diverse E - 12 setting

    OR

    Experience as a current or former E-12 administrator with documented experience in teacher evaluation within a diverse E - 12 setting

Preferred Qualifications

  • Doctorate degree focused on pedagogy, teaching, or K-12 content-specific instruction.
  • Ability to work in a flexible and dynamic environment while managing multiple priorities.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including presentations in virtual and in-person settings.
  • Prior experience with learning management systems, hybrid instruction, and Google suite.
  • Ability and willingness to travel within the Twin Cities area to schools and district offices. Some Saturday and evening teaching and events are required.
Additional Information

The compensation range is $55,000-$58,000, depending on qualifications.
