SUMMARY

Assists in the deelopment, implementation, and management of plant-wide environmental programs with focus on waste, wastewater, and assigned multi-media compliance and reporting. Provides environmental guidance and supports plant personnel on various issues.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

May include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Assist in the continuous improvement and implementation of plant-wide environmental program that will enable: Continued compliance with various governmental and corporate environmental standards, as well as first quartile industry quality compliance and performance.

  • Provide technical and regulatory guidance for operations, maintenance, process engineering and capital projects with oversight from management.

  • Initiate and actively participate in incident investigation and corrective actions for environmental-related events and incidents.

  • Participate, as needed, in trade associations, professional groups, and interplant Westlakediscussions so that an effective network is maintained to assist in supporting HSE initiatives.

  • Maintain a working knowledge of current and proposed federal and state environmental requirements.

  • Perform periodic environmental audits at plant locations and verify all company policies andprocedures are being followed.

  • Coordinate the plant's compliance programs with focus on waste management processes, while supporting multi-media compliance programs and initiatives.

  • Serve as host and for auditors/inspectors conducting compliance inspections/investigations.

  • Develop and execute strategies to resolve issues arising from agency, corporate, and internalcompliance inspections as well as issues that arise during day-to-day operations.

  • Develop and maintain environmental procedures, guides and plans.

  • Prepare training modules and conducts training on environmental requirements.

  • Complete environmental program agency reports as assigned.

  • Provide quality control via peer review of reports and documents generated by other members of the Environmental Department.

  • Assist in environmental metric tracking, analysis and reporting.

  • Promote complex safety program through attendance of safety meeting and participation in safety committee activities.

  • Participate in off-hours on-call rotation for HSE as needed.

  • Promptly report Safety, Health or Environmental issues or incidents to management.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum of five years of environmental compliance or other relevant industry experience in a petrochemical plant setting

  • B.S. Degree in Chemical Engineering preferred

  • A current, valid Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) card is required.

  • Successful candidate must satisfy background screening, including motor vehicle record screening, drug testing & pre-employment physical requirements before starting work.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This job is performed mainly in a control room or office setting. Physical presence and predictable attendance required. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand, walk; use hands to touch, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. This job requires response to audible emergency alarms inside of the plant. Employee must be able to evacuate when required.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate as normally based in an office. Some of the work may be required in the operating units which can require usage of required PPE including safety glasses, hearing protection, etc. May also result in exposure to outside elements and may require usage of stairs and elevators. Travel including air travel or auto travel may occasionally be required.
