As part of the Leadership team, the Director of Connected Experiences (Public Sector) is the thought leader around three key practice areas: Verizon's Secure Intelligent Communications, Unified Workspace Solutions, and Digital CX Solutions. In this role, the Director leads a team of highly skilled managers and technology specialists to set the strategic direction for these practice areas while managing tactical day-to-day public sector mission and revenue results.

The successful candidate will be a passionate and proactive visionary in driving operational readiness and strategic initiatives to exceed public sector objectives.

The candidate must have a proven track record of exceeding targets in our emerging technology space within government environments. The Director must be a strong leader, extremely well-organized, analytical, detail-oriented, and quality-minded. They must be able to adhere to and identify process improvements in reporting, analytics, pipeline forecasting, and performance metrics. They will develop, direct, and analyze programs and retention strategies for maximum agency satisfaction and mission enablement. A successful Director will support the vision and direction of Verizon's Public Sector Leaders.

As the Director, the candidate will implement mission-driven initiatives to drive VBG CEx performance, utilizing all available marketing, capture, and contract vehicle capabilities to drive these objectives. The Director will react to shifting public policy, budget cycles, and competitive changes, address team performance weaknesses, and attack prospect and upsell/cross-sell opportunities through the implementation of targeted agency campaigns.

The Director will make sound and timely business decisions to drive short-term and long-term performance, to align selling and engineering resources with the greatest government opportunities in the most cost-effective ways, to ensure all personnel are treated fairly and are compensated accurately, to improve team performance through better processes, technology, and methodologies, and to improve employee morale.

Key Responsibilities

  • Align daily activity to the Verizon Credo and public sector compliance standards.

  • Maintain accurate pipeline metrics, contract tracking, and forecast reporting.

  • Direct, coach, and mentor public sector leaders and teams to meet/exceed key performance metrics.

  • Measure effectiveness of leaders and team's agency engagement, relationship development, and solution expertise.

  • Adopt and measure team opportunity funnels utilizing public sector capture management and Verizon Velocity methodology.

  • Matrix manage all stakeholders, including Marketing, Product Management, and Government Affairs, to align to a consistent strategy and execution.

  • Partner closely with core public sector account leaders to identify, develop, and close additional opportunities at existing agency clients and work with teams to secure large contract vehicles/RFP wins.

  • Identify key influencers and decision-makers (CIOs, CTOs, Program Managers) and present the Verizon value proposition to executive-level government clients.

  • Help teams identify and overcome policy, security compliance (e.g., FedRAMP, CJIS), and technical barriers to acquisition.

  • Deeply engage in deal creation, contract financials, and RFP execution strategies that drive new agency logos and grant-funded initiatives.

  • Build and retain strong relationships within the public sector partner ecosystem (SI partners, 8(a) vendors, and small business consortiums).

You'll need to have:

  • Bachelor's degree or four or more years of work experience.

  • Six or more years of relevant work experience.

  • 6+ years of experience managing technology acquisition and business development with Public Sector/Government Customers (Federal, State, Local, or Higher Education), with emphasis in Advanced Communications, SaaS, and/or IT space.

  • Deep understanding of government procurement processes, RFPs, and contract vehicles (e.g., GSA Schedules, NASPO ValuePoint, EIS).

  • Proven ability to deliver results in a fast-paced environment while balancing multiple highly complex cross-functional projects.

  • Ability to lead in a matrixed environment with multiple internal and external stakeholders.

  • Track record of exceeding public sector revenue and contract acquisition targets.

  • Successful management experience leading a multi-departmental team setup to meet specific government and institutional requirements.

  • Experience with solution delivery to C-level Executives and Agency Heads in the Public Sector, with an emphasis on digital technologies and advanced voice communications.

  • Strong business acumen, public sector financial analysis, and budget cycle navigation skills.

  • Excellent project management, team leadership, and interpersonal skills; knowledge of government technology trends, Wireline/Wireless technology, and compliance/security standards.

  • Previous experience working directly with senior government executives or military leadership.

Even better if you have one or more of the following:

  • Broad industry knowledge of public sector digital transformation trends.

  • Strong analytical skills, with successful experience in securing and analyzing large volumes of data to make recommendations toward achieving specific operational goals.

  • Extensive computer skills, including Microsoft Suite, Salesforce, and Google.

  • Ability to work under pressure of tight regulatory and RFP timelines; detail-oriented.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, in addition to strong analytical skills.

  • Ability to interact at the most senior levels internal and external to Verizon (e.g., public officials, institutional boards).

  • Ability to communicate knowledge and expertise to provide insight and direction to the business.

  • Ability to motivate, lead, coach, mentor, and train managers within Verizon.

  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams and ensure cohesive efforts toward a shared goal.

  • Public speaking and strong market presence within public sector technology forums and conferences.

  • Presentation skills for executive-level management, public committees, and agency stakeholders.

  • Self-motivated, resilient, can-do attitude to overcome regulatory and procurement obstacles to find resolution in complex conditions.

  • Experience working extensively with ecosystem partners (Subcontractors, Prime Contractors, and OEMs) to deliver comprehensive solutions to public sector customers.

  • Ability to travel.

The salary will vary depending on your location and confirmed job-related skills and experience. This is a commission based position with the potential to earn more. For part-time roles, your compensation will be adjusted to reflect your hours. The annual salary range for the location(s) listed on this job requisition based on a full-time schedule is: $184,500.00 - $321,800.00.
