What you'll do:

As a Vice President, Portfolio Management Team Leader, you will operate as an extension of senior leadership, driving day-to-day lending team execution and cross-functional collaboration. The position manages a team of portfolio managers and analysts who support our Juris Banking Lending and Deposit Sales teams. Your team is responsible for underwriting and originating loans to law firms and related businesses, as well as managing the health of existing relationships while ensuring compliance with the Bank's lending policies and procedures.
Western Alliance uses a team-based approach to portfolio management and so you'll work with a team that includes commercial bankers, business development officers, and partners from credit administration, loan administration, credit risk review, and others.
  • Manage workflow of portfolio managers and credit analysts. Own end-to-end loan execution for your team, including prioritization, resource allocation, and delivery against timelines. Drive process improvements and workflow efficiency.
  • Serve as the primary escalation point for standard transactions and portfolio risks.
  • Partner closely with the sales team to develop new and maintain existing client relationships while ensuring a timely credit process from start to finish.
  • Interface with clients in-person, over the phone, and email to assess their credit needs and determine the best structure and items needed for analysis. Complete prescreening of loans to quickly assess the Bank's ability to potentially lend.
  • Review work from portfolio managers and credit analysts, including prescreen memos, loan presentations, risk rating reviews, financial analysis, action plans and other common portfolio management requirements, as necessary.
  • Supervise a variety of general portfolio management activities, including credit concentration reviews and portfolio optimization, critical analysis of trends and factors impacting various projects.
  • Lead and develop a team; responsible for hiring, coaching, performance management, training and development.
  • Reinforce superior customer service through your own example along with appropriate follow-through with involved customers and employees.

What you'll need:

  • 8+ years of related experience in Portfolio Management or similar position with advanced knowledge of the underwriting of commercial credits at a bank, including loan structuring.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience required.
  • Previous leadership experience required.
  • Demonstrate strong analytical and project management skills for a variety of tasks or projects.
  • Advanced knowledge of general banking operations, including deposit operations, loan administration, treasury management and/or other commercial banking products and services.
  • Advanced knowledge of applicable regulatory and legal compliance obligations, rules and regulations, industry standards and practices.
  • Advanced speaking and writing communication skills.
  • Ability to deal with difficult problems involving multiple facets, variables in non-standardized situations.
Compensation: Salary range for new hires is generally $170,000.00 - $212,547.00 for San Diego, CA. Salary range for new hires is generally $183,691.00 - $220,105.00 for San Jose, CA. Salary range for new hires is generally $183,691.00 - $220,105.00 for New York, NY. Salary amount is determined by specific job location. In addition, the role may be eligible for annual bonus/incentives earned and restricted stock.
