Overview

NaphCare is seeking a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner to join our healthcare team at the Washoe County Jail in Reno, Nevada.

This part-time (10 hours per week) opportunity is ideal for a provider who is passionate about behavioral healthcare and wants to make a lasting impact in a unique clinical setting. Working within a collaborative correctional healthcare environment, you'll provide comprehensive psychiatric care, support patients participating in our Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) program, and partner with an experienced multidisciplinary team to improve outcomes for individuals with complex behavioral health and medical needs.



Responsibilities

As a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner, you'll provide comprehensive behavioral healthcare while supporting patients with mental health and substance use disorders. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

    Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations and ongoing medication management.
  • Assess, diagnose, and treat patients with behavioral health and substance use disorders.
  • Support the facility's Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) program by evaluating patients and developing individualized treatment plans.
  • Obtain patient histories, perform physical assessments as appropriate, and formulate evidence-based treatment plans.
  • Prescribe medications and monitor patient response to treatment.
  • Admit, evaluate, and discharge patients in accordance with established clinical protocols.
  • Conduct patient rounds and ensure continuity of care throughout the treatment process.
  • Order, review, and interpret laboratory and diagnostic testing as clinically indicated.
  • Collaborate with physicians, nurses, mental health professionals, and correctional staff to deliver coordinated, patient-centered care.
  • Respond to urgent psychiatric needs while promoting patient safety and maintaining appropriate clinical documentation.
  • Educate patients on their diagnoses, medications, treatment plans, and available behavioral health resources.


Qualifications

Education / Licenses / Certifications / Requirements

  • Master's or Doctorate degree in Nursing
  • Current, unrestricted Nevada Nurse Practitioner license with Psychiatric certification

OR

  • Current Physician Assistant license with at least one (1) year of relevant psychiatric experience
  • Current DEA registration
  • Collaborative Practice Agreement with the facility physician (if applicable)
  • Current BLS/CPR certification
  • Ability to successfully complete the facility's background investigation and drug screening

Experience / Skills

  • Knowledge of nursing practice principles and techniques, occupational health and safety standards, infectious disease management, applicable health care laws, regulations, and procedures for direct health care services.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of all proprietary and/or confidential information
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Able to work independently and in a team
  • Experience working in a correctional facility or acute care center is a plus
  • Integrity, professionalism and ability to adhere to a Code of Conduct and comply with all facility(s) correctional healthcare policies, procedures, and legal requirements

Physical Capabilities:

Must have the ability to stand for long periods, lift and move patients (up to 50 pounds), bend, squat, reach, push, pull, walk significant distances, and perform physically demanding tasks like CPR, all while maintaining good balance and endurance throughout a shift.
