THE POSITION

The Roadway Programs Technician 1 position with the Department of Transportation offers an exciting chance to support roadway maintenance and operations in your community. This role allows you to work with data, field activities, and important maintenance systems that keep roads safe and reliable. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position supports roadway maintenance operations by assisting with data review, field inspections, and materials management throughout the county maintenance organization. As a Roadway Programs Technician 1, you will perform the following duties:

  • Data Review: Examine reports, inventory records, contract entries, and system data to support accurate roadway and materials management
  • Field Inspection: Inspect roadside areas, accident sites, material stockpiles, and winter operations to identify issues and verify conditions
  • Materials Management: Help track, receive, store, and issue roadway materials and assist with salt management planning and analysis
  • Program Support: Assist with planning, monitoring, and documenting maintenance activities that support year round roadway operations
  • Communication Tasks: Work with staff, contractors, and partner agencies to gather information, report findings, and support maintenance decisions
  • Record Keeping: Update spreadsheets, logs, and information systems to maintain accurate and complete program records

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch. Work hours subject to change based on seasonal requirements and operational needs.
  • Overtime and shift work required
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $41,506 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year of experience as a Technical Assistant (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • One year of experience in analysis of data utilized in planning and scheduling of work, materials and equipment and graduation from high school or GED equivalent; or
  • An Associate's Degree in a field of Business Administration, Computer Science, Highway Engineering Technology or other closely related program.; or
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training.
  • Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree.
