About the Job

Functions as an intelligence and crime analyst for the Department of Public Safety. Position performs a variety of duties related to the collection, analysis, storage, and dissemination of intelligence for the detection of criminal activity to ensure the safety, privacy, and protection of the University of Minnesota campus communities. Position works closely with internal resources, various other local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies, and other intelligence gathering entities.

Essential Functions:

  • 50% - Information Analysis
    • Obtains and analyzes information from multiple sources including: police reports and calls for service, arrest records, public records, local and national databases (CJIS, NCIC), and open source. Researches and conducts administrative, tactical, and strategic analysis on collected data to assist in investigations, develop statistics, identify modus operandi patterns, and identify short-term/long-term trends related to public safety for the campuses and surrounding communities.
  • 20% - Data Compilation and Reporting:
    • Develops, interprets, and distributes maps, charts, graphs, reports, or other related statistical materials to track and present findings related to criminal and safety related activities. Creates confidential or law enforcement sensitive safety bulletins on crime trends, wanted persons, and officer safety. Prepares concise, detailed, organized reports or announcements for purposes of making notifications to the public and/or University leadership.
  • 25% - Collaborate with and advise DPS units to promote intelligence led policing
    • Establishes and maintains positive relationships with other criminal justice, law enforcement, or public safety-related agencies or departments, internally and externally, for the purposes of collaboration. Acts as a lead and assists other team members in investigative approaches and designs of the analytical review processes; may provide training to other staff. Maintains awareness and implements new developments or updated processes in the field of crime analysis.
  • 5% Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • BA/BS degree and at least 5 years of experience or a combination of related education and work experience equal to nine years.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs. Must be at the intermediate level or higher in Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
  • Excellent analytical and critical-thinking skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, both orally and in writing
  • Experience in OSINT
  • Working knowledge of mapping software
  • Experience working in a public safety environment
Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $38.00 to $40.50 a hour; depending on education/qualifications/experience

Time Appointment: 100% Appointment

Position Type: Civil-Service & Non-Faculty Labor Represented Staff
