Job Summary

The Central Sterile Supply (CSS)/Sterile Processing (SPD) Manager provides leadership for sterile processing within all Monument Health healing environments and clinical programs and/or services. The Manager of CSS/SPD is a key member of Monument Health's system wide team maintaining current business while identifying and elevating new opportunities to alignment with MH Strategic Plan. The incumbent in this position is a department head who has responsibility and accountability for quality control, infection prevention, asepsis protocol, and other operating standards and the management and direction of the operational, personnel, financial and marketing activities. These functions are performed in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations and Monument Health's philosophy, policies, procedures and standards. Job Description

Essential Functions:

  • Participates in strategic planning and provides leadership for perioperative supply chain operations for all clinical programs and/or support multiple surgical specialties/services and sites. This includes but is not limited to: business planning, financial and operational analysis, reporting and evaluation of services.
  • Provides business consultation to supply chain and perioperative services. Serve as a liaison with Perioperative services, clinics and other departments as needed.
  • Responsible for the sterilization operations and support services 24/7
  • Plans, organizes, develops, coordinates, directs and evaluates the daily, weekly, and monthly logistical operations of the sterile processing/equipment and distribution of equipment throughout the facilities to ensure timely delivery of products which serve all perioperative locations.
  • Apply thorough knowledge of systems, methods, and processes: Instrument Tracking, Case Cart, and Patient Charging, Supply Chain and budget, preparing, handling, and storing of sterile equipment as they relate to the SPD/CSS department.
  • Tracks instrument usage and repair/replace. Grants approval for preventive maintenance, repairs or purchase of new according to policy guidelines.
  • Provided planning, preparing and managing the annual budget, promotes cost containment, maintains supply and equipment inventories; through the effective and efficient use of resources in daily procedures, processes and practices. Actively seek cost savings and cost avoidance initiatives.
  • Effectively utilize organizational information systems and data related to operational management.
  • Responsible for CSS/SPD caregivers, hiring, training, caregiver retention and engagement, ensuring compliance with hospital policies and allocating appropriate staffing levels throughout the network to ensure that skills and abilities of caregivers significantly contribute to the achievement of operational, departmental, system, and team goals.
  • Promote and ensure a positive work environment, through mentoring and career growth opportunities through stretch assignments and expanded roles.
  • Develops in-service education programs. Keeps informed of and communicates to caregivers current trends in sterile processing activities.
  • Demonstrates Performance Improvement in the following areas as appropriate: Clinical Care/Outcomes, Customer/Service Improvement, Operational System/Process, and Safety. Communicates ambitious performance measures with leadership to improve outcomes.
  • Participates in infection, safety and quality control programs. Apply quality and problem solving tools in leading and collaborating with others to improve outcomes (including patient safety) and processes.
  • Evaluates current products and researches new products, devices and equipment in conjunction with the Value Analysis Committee. Coordinates the implementation of new products.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Additional Requirements

Required:

Education - Associates in Healthcare or Related Field

Certification - Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) - Accredited University or accredited training professionals or Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) - Association of Surgical Technologies

Work Experience - 3+ years Sterile Processing Experience or 3+ years Surgical Room Experience

Preferred:

Education - Bachelors in Healthcare or Related Field

Work Experience - 5+ years Management Experience

Medium work - Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
