THE POSITION

The Pharmacy Assistant position with the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs (DMVA) gives you the chance to actively support the health and comfort of veterans and their spouses at the Hollidaysburg Veterans' Home. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position supports the pharmacy team to ensure that residents receive accurate, timely, and well-documented medication services. The work involves preparing prescriptions, updating records, managing inventory, and assisting with pharmacy operations. As a Pharmacy Assistant, you will perform the following duties:

  • Prescription Support: Prepare, fill, document, and label prescriptions under pharmacist supervision
  • Record Updates: Enter medication orders and maintain computerized medication profiles
  • Inventory Control: Receive, stock, monitor, and manage pharmacy inventory and emergency boxes
  • Clerical Tasks: Complete filing, copying, phone support, and message distribution
  • Quality Participation: Support facility programs and offer input to strengthen quality improvement efforts
  • Safety Practices: Follow all safety rules and use required protective equipment

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week
  • Work hours are 1st shift (9:00 AM to 5:00 PM), Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year of experience assisting a licensed pharmacist in the preparation and dispensing of medications in a hospital pharmacy; or
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training.

Additional Requirements:

  • You must be in possession of a Pharmacy Technician license issued by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania - Department of State Bureau of Professional and Occupational Affairs, State Board of Pharmacy
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Legal Requirements:

  • A conditional offer of employment will require a medical examination.
  • This position falls under the provisions of the Older Adult Protective Services Act.
    • Under the Act, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports, including but not limited to, PA State Police and FBI clearance.
