THE POSITION

Clerical Assistant 2 with the Department of Agriculture is a great opportunity to support important programs that protect animal health across the Commonwealth. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position supports daily operations that help maintain effective animal health programs and important bureau functions. The role ensures smooth processing of applications, payments, and communication. As a Clerical Assistant 2, you will perform the following duties:

  • Program Support: Assist in overseeing animal health program needs and provide steady administrative help
  • License Processing: Review and process applications for aquaculture dealer and propagator licenses
  • Payment Handling: Process checks and prepare transmittals for accurate financial tracking
  • Data Entry Backup: Serve as backup for rabies data entry and help maintain accurate records
  • Communication Support: Receive and route incoming telephone calls and provide requested information
  • Account Monitoring: Monitor bureau resource accounts and respond promptly to voice and email messages

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
    • Position would be required to work overtime during emergency situations.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, up to 5 days per pay period. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview.
  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $36,108 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Six months as a Clerical Assistant 1 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • Graduation from high school; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Additional Requirements:
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Preferred Qualification (not required) :
  • Experience in data entry and tracking correspondence
  • Experience in customer service
  • Experience in reviewing and processing applications
  • Experience in MS Office or the equivalent
  • Agricultural knowledge and/or general knowledge of veterinary terminology
