Job Summary
Under minimal supervision, the Data Scientist, Lead is responsible for development, implementation, and evaluation of multiple projects simultaneously. This includes gathering business requirements, extracting data, conducting statistical analyses, creating reports and visualizations, and developing system solutions. The Data Scientist, Lead readily displays the ability to diagnose issues, identify appropriate resources and escalations, and propose creative solutions to complex problems.
Under general direction, the Data Scientist, Lead is an Epic certified or proficient individual, who is responsible for the stakeholder management, work distribution, strategy, support, analysis, design, build, configuration, implementation, workflow documentation, and educational support of the assigned Epic application or third-party software, in alignment with organization's policies, procedures, and business operations.
The Data Scientist,Lead provides leadership and mentorship to less-experienced analysts and data scientists to help build knowledge, skill and ability.
In addition, this individual develops strategies and tactics to implement cross department complex workflows aligned with Denver Health or department strategic objectives with ability to organize and present information effectively. This includes, but may not be limited to providing technical guidance, leading huddles, project management, and helping to standardize work efforts across all team staff. Delivers direction to ensure the correct solution is being produced for the right customer at the right time. Ensures staff is working on the highest priority items aligned with organizational and pillar initiatives. This position follows a hybrid work schedule, with an expectation of working onsite two days per week. Remote work is available for the remaining days based on business needs.
Essential Functions:
- Project Planning: Meets with stakeholders to identify business requirements, expected outcomes, and pertinent d20ata sources. Collaborates with information technology teams, stakeholders, and subject matter experts to locate, evaluate, integrate, and validate new and existing data sources. Documents business requirements, data requirements, data sources, and programming logic pertaining to data requests. Conducts literature reviews. (20%)
- Project Management: Manages projects as a lead or supporting team member. Periodically reviews processes, coding, and requirements for opportunities for improvement and automation. (10%)
- Data Management, Modeling and Analysis: Queries databases. Designs database structures and data models to facilitate the acquisition, management, integration, and reporting of data and information using industry standards and guidelines. Compares models using statistical performance metrics.
Creates and utilizes programs or tools to ensure data accuracy and integrity. Analyzes data using statistical software. (20%) - Reporting: Creates graphs, charts, or other visualizations to convey the results of data analysis. Makes formal and informal presentations to leadership and end users both orally and in writing. (20%)
- Mentorship and Leadership: Mentors less-experienced analysts and teams on application systems to help build knowledge, skill and ability. Identifies training needs for customer and team members. Manages intake requests and distributes work to team members. Provides leadership and data architecture decisions, such as providing technical guidance, leading data huddles, and helping to standardize work efforts across all reporting staff. Actively monitor effectiveness of team members by reviewing content and quality of delivered solutions. (30%)
Education:
- Bachelor's Degree in Health Informatics, Computer Science, Health Services Research, Public Health, Mathematics, Science, or closely related field. Required
Work Experience:
- 7-9 years Professional experience working with Epic databases, summarizing data, and reporting meaningful results to ends users. Required
Licenses:
- CABOODLE-EPIC Cogito Data Warehouse - DHHA - Denver Health and Hospital Authority Required

- Demonstrates data literacy with strong analytical and problem-solving skills; the ability to prepare and transform raw data to deliver insights.
- Ability to adapt and excel in an evolving technical environment; identifies and validates the appropriate technological solutions for various reporting needs.
- Demonstrates strong ability to identify, analyze, and solve problems. Can use analytical reasoning to determine root causes, define the problem, generate solutions, and implement the best option.
- Communicates in a way that builds relationships and fosters collaborative work. Tailors the mode and content of communication to both technical and non-technical colleagues in and outside of the organization.
- Displays high level of initiative, including the ability and willingness to take ownership of work, recognize assignments or tasks that need to be completed, seek out additional assignments or tasks, and help others.
- Business analysis skills to identify data solutions by interviewing business users, analyzing processes/operations, establishing solution objectives, prototyping solution, and preparing specifications.
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Strong SQL skills or equivalent computer language skills and strong understanding of relational and dimensional database concepts, including primary keys, foreign keys, joins, custom object creation, stored procedures, views, functions, etc to optimize database and SQL job performance.
- Strong ability to research and troubleshoot reporting content functionality to ensure data is accurate and daily processing has been completed.
- Effectively lead project requests through any/all standard stages of a project lifecycle.
- Mentor to fellow team members aiding in building knowledge, skills and abilities.
- Deliver data and development via enterprise endorsed tools, such as SSMS, custom database object creation, SQL driven Cogito tools, Tableau.
- Demonstrated expertise with Source Control, such as Git.

Salary $104,000.00 - $166,400.00 / yr
