SUMMARY:

Reports to the Vice President, Chief Pharmacy Officer. The Director, Pharmacy Supply Chain serves as Brown University Health's (BUH) authoritative resource on supply chain management and maintains financial oversight over pharmaceutical costs. Across the BUH hospital-based and BUH Pharmacy LLC system, is responsible for oversight of all aspects of Pharmacy purchasing including medication procurement, inventory management, contracting, and participation in and compliance with the 340B Federal Drug Discount Program for all covered entities within BUH. Develops, directs, and maintains an effective work group consisting of direct and indirect report managers, supervisors, pharmacists, and technician specialists to ensure that Pharmacy Supply Chain operations are value-centric, effectively manages dynamic inventory levels, and minimizes the impact of shortages on direct patient care. Provides oversight to the development and implementation of Pharmacy Services goals and objectives, policies, procedures, and budgets as they relate to Supply Chain.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Serves as BUH's primary authority on pharmacy supply chain, providing comprehensive financial oversight and cost management across hospital operations and BUH Pharmacy LLC.

Leads the performance optimization of the Consolidated Services Center (CSC) to ensure efficient, cost-effective system-wide management of pharmaceuticals and supplies.

Develops and executes strategic and operational business plans; monitors productivity, budgets, and expenditures; and drives corrective actions to achieve financial stewardship and organizational objectives.

Oversees pharmacy purchasing, contracting, inventory control, and drug shortage mitigation strategies to ensure continuity of care and minimize patient impact across all affiliates.

Directs RFP development, vendor evaluation, and contracting activities, establishing financial and technical standards to maximize ROI and support system-wide initiatives.

Ensures regulatory compliance, medication safety, and operational integrity, including formulary management, storage, distribution, diversion prevention, and 340B program optimization.

Collaborates across pharmacy service lines and system stakeholders to standardize processes, integrate technology and automation, and optimize the medication-use system for safety, quality, and efficiency.

Provides executive leadership in workforce development, performance management, and stakeholder engagement while advancing industry best practices through participation in professional organizations (e.g., Vizient NPC) and continuous improvement initiatives.

Travels between sites as needed.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Work may require extended periods of time spent standing and walking. Requires the visual and manual dexterity to operate a computer. May require travel between affiliate sites and facilities as needed.

INDEPENDENT ACTION:
Functions independently within a broad scope of departmental policies and practices. Refers complex or novel issues to supervisor when clarification of organizational policies and procedures may be required.

BASIC KNOWLEDGE:

Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy or Doctor of Pharmacy degree from an accredited college of pharmacy. Master's degree (e.g., MBA, MS, MPH) and/or ASHP accredited PGY2 Health-System Pharmacy Administration and Leadership residency preferred.

Prior to start date, possesses current unrestricted licensure as a licensed pharmacist or a licensed 90-day temporary pharmacist in the State of Rhode Island. Within 90 days of start date, must possess and maintain current unrestricted licensure as a licensed pharmacist in the State of Rhode Island.

Advanced skills with Microsoft 365 applications, which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, or Access, and other web-based applications. May produce complex documents, perform analysis, and maintain databases. Experience with Microsoft Power Business Intelligence (BI) preferred.

Excellent interpersonal, negotiating, and presentation skills with ability to provide targeted communication, both verbal and written, to internal and external constituents.

EXPERIENCE:

Minimum of seven years progressively more responsible related experience, preferably gained in a similarly diverse and operationally complex health care environment.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:

Direct supervision of up to 10 FTEs professional and supervisory personnel.
Indirect supervision of up to 25 FTEs technical and support personnel.

Has the authority to direct and support employees' daily work activities. Holds direct responsibility for employment actions, including hiring, termination, corrective action, and performance reviews. Provides leadership, coaching, and professional development to direct reports to support a high-performing finance team.

Pay Range:

$147,784.00-$243,859.20
