Responsibilities

As a Skilled Laborer/Groundman on our Long Haul Travel Crew, you will support aerial and underground telecom construction projects nationwide, on all phases of utility construction for various types of projects. You believe in doing the job right. Being the best. And you're up for the challenge.

In addition, you will:

  • Be responsible for various manual tasks such as digging trenches, unloading building materials, and preparing job sites with the use of hand tools like shovels, rakes, and picks
  • Work in outdoor utility construction sites
  • Transport heavy equipment to and from the job site each day
  • Build and maintain aerial and underground cable systems
  • Troubleshoot problems as they arise in the field, and perform basic repair of RF and fiber systems as needed
  • Learn and train to use various kinds of tools and equipment
  • Assist with installation of underground conduit and fiber optic cable, including fiber blowing and placement
  • Assist with equipment and vehicle operations (trucks, trailers, and construction equipment) as directed and certified
  • Support site cleanup, basic maintenance, and overall job site organization
  • Learn to read and interpret construction prints, maps, and design schematics
  • Gain experience with telecom tools and equipment such as bucket trucks, line trucks, cable reels, and power tools
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

About You:

  • Safety is a part of your day-to-day
  • You have a track record of completing work with a high level of quality
  • You have a knack for figuring out hard problems and enjoy a hands-on approach to your work
  • You are looking for long-term projects
  • You enjoy getting your hands dirty with your team
  • You have a valid driver's license and the ability to obtain a DOT med card for driving purposes (CDL preferred; applicants are subject to an MVR review, and must meet company standards for a safe driving record)
  • You want to learn the telecom construction trade to advance your career, like Coax Splicing, Fiber Splicing, Directional Drilling, etc.
  • You want to make an impact with your local community and enjoy being home daily
  • At least 2 years of experience working outdoors, preferably in a utilities/construction environment
  • Physically able to lift up to 50 lbs, independently and consistently
  • Open to travel 7 days a week, per diem, 4-5 weeks on, and 5 days off on a rotating schedule (50+ hours per week, depending on the weather), and working overtime consistently

MOS Codes 12K, 12N,12V, 12W, 21E, 21J, 25P, 91C, 91L, 11B, 1100, 1120, 1316, 9970-9975, 0612, 2T3XX, 2E1XX, 3E2XX, 3E3XX, 9T0XX, BU, UT relate well to this position.

Compensation of $21-$24 per hour, depending on the experience.
