A materials management pharmacist oversees the procurement, storage, distribution, and inventory control of medications and medical supplies.
- Manage pharmacy materials and inventory operations, ensuring timely availability of medications, supplies, and other pharmaceutical products to support uninterrupted patient care.
- Coordinate procurement and purchasing activities, including vendor management, purchase orders, product sourcing, pricing, and monitoring of medication and supply availability.
- Utilize and maintain Omnicell automated medication management systems to support medication distribution, inventory control, replenishment, and accurate dispensing workflows.
- Monitor controlled substances and other regulated medications in accordance with organizational policies and applicable regulatory requirements.
- Support compliance with DEA, FDA, state Board of Pharmacy, USP, and other applicable pharmacy regulations and accreditation standards, as required.
- Prepare inventory and procurement reports, track key performance indicators, and communicate material-management issues and recommendations to pharmacy leadership.
- Participate in audits and regulatory inspections by maintaining accurate documentation, inventory records, purchasing records, and compliance-related reports.
- Assist with implementation and improvement of standard operating procedures related to procurement, inventory management, automation, medication distribution, and regulatory compliance.
- Train and support pharmacy staff on inventory procedures, Omnicell workflows, medication storage requirements, and materials-management policies.
- Partner with vendors and internal stakeholders to resolve backorders, shortages, recalls, delivery issues, and product substitutions.
- Maintain a safe, organized, and compliant medication storage environment consistent with pharmacy policies, manufacturer requirements, and applicable regulations.
Required:
- Graduate of an accredited School of Pharmacy.
- Three (3) years Pharmacy experience.
- One (1) year experience in the specialty care area (example: hospital, retail, infusion center, oncology, critical care, etc).
Preferred:
- One (1) year lead or supervisory experience.
- Omnicell experience.
- Experience with medication shortages, recalls, returns, and inventory reconciliation.
- Knowledge of USP <795>, USP <797>, USP <800>, DEA requirements, and applicable State Board of Pharmacy regulations.
