JOB SUMMARY: The Recreation Coordinator is responsible for supporting, implementing, and operating designated recreation programs, events, and activities in the area of youth programming. Working with a team of recreation staff, the Recreation Coordinator will oversee current and expand upon current youth programs and child-care services. This position performs a variety of clerical and administrative support functions as well as hands on program operation functions. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Work with supervisory staff to develop, plan, and implement a variety of recreational programs and activities for youth, including sports, camps, after-school programs, child-care and special events.
- Oversee the daily operations of youth programs, including staffing, participant registration, equipment maintenance, and facility usage.
- Collaborate with community partners, schools, and other organizations to create partnerships and joint programs.
- Collaborate with the Reengagement Program Coordinator and other applicable city departments.
- Program and operate youth programming in city facilities such as parks, recreation/community centers, and Youth Center.
- Provide on-site recreation program operation and support.
- Create detailed program schedules, budgets, and marketing materials.
- Work within and provide input on program operating budgets.
- Monitor program activities to ensure safety, quality, and compliance with all relevant regulations and policies.
- Operate recreation registration software.
- Responds to and documents all incidents involving injury, behavioral problems, and/or any unusual events. Communicates to appropriate resources and supervisor. Maintains records and files on all participants in assigned programs and activities and all related records and documentation as necessary.
- Seeks and engages in community events that allows for program and service marketing opportunities.

- A bachelor's degree in a related field such as recreation management, parks and recreation, sports management, education, social work, or a similar field
REQUIRED CERTIFICATES AND/OR LICENSES:
- Vehicle Operator's license with satisfactory driving record that meets insurability standards of the City's insurance carrier is required. The employee must maintain the license for the duration of their employment.
REQUIRED SKILLS (Communication/Language; Mathematical; Computer; etc.):
- Knowledge of the philosophy and objectives of recreation and leisure services and of the programs, classes and activities offered.
- Knowledge of recreation program development.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Conflict resolution skills.
- Interpersonal skills to interact effectively with diverse individuals and groups, within and outside the organization.
- Intermediate computer skills with working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Ability to accurately compile, evaluate, and maintain budgets, financial data, and reports.
- Ability to produce promotional materials for media use and publication.
- Ability to maintain all files, forms, correspondence, etc. related to program operations.
- Ability to recruit, train and supervise volunteers.
- Ability to exercise good judgment.
- Ability to inspire confidence and enthusiasm.
- Ability to understand the function, design and maintenance of parks & recreation areas/facilities.
- Ability to function effectively both as a team member and as a team leader.
- Ability to adapt to change.
- Ability to solve problems.
OTHER DESIRABLES:
- Certification in First Aid and CPR.
- Prior experience in Parks and Recreation programming and/or youth services.
