Position Summary
The Assistant Athletic Director (AD) is responsible for the management of all duties associated with
Student-Athlete Support Services ( SASS) for the Department of Athletics. This individual will
oversee the academic mentoring of all student-athletes, including those at-risk, through SASS. This individual will work closely with academic departments and advisors and the Academic Achievement Center to ensure that student-athletes comply with University, Southern Conference and NCAA academic policies, as well as maintaining academic progress toward degree.
The Assistant AD will need to demonstrate an ability to supervise and maintain a staff of qualified professionals in the areas within SASS. The Assistant AD is responsible for creating a comprehensive student-athlete development program, as well as assisting with the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. This individual will work closely with the Athletics Compliance Office, SASS staff members and the Certifying Officer housed in the Registrar's Office in order to ensure University, Southern Conference and NCAA academic eligibility is met for all student-athletes and that progress towards graduation is achieved. This will include oversight of the Academic Progress Rate ( APR).

The Assistant AD is actively involved in relationships with numerous departments on campus. This individual will be directly involved departments such as: the Registrar's Office, Students First Office, the Office of Accessibility Resources and Services ( OARS), Global Engagement Office, Counseling Center and Student Affairs/Dean of Students. External relationships will exist with the NCAA and institutions within the Southern Conference, as well as those in the State of North Carolina.
The Assistant AD has a dual report to the Executive Associate AD/ SWA and Associate Vice Provost of Student Success/Dean of Undergraduate Studies and is a member of the Department of Athletics Spartan Council. In addition, the position serves on the Department of Athletics Mental Health Support Team.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations and at least three years of related experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree. Preferred experience with Banner and Degree Works.
  • Preferred skills of taking initiative, multi-tasking, being organized with attention to detail and having excellent/effective communication skills, with managerial experience. Requires evening and weekend assignments.
